Sorry if IABU but please tell the jobcentre if you have children under 5 (or with disabilities) and you are on the benefits listed here. It's only £25 for each cold week but it will allow you to maybe put the heating on a bit more - and they can't pay you if they don't know. Once you're registered it comes automatically when the temperature drops.
Sorry. DWP Cold Weather Payment scheme launches for winter | The Oldham Times

DWP Cold Weather Payments launch for winter from today - are you eligible?

The Cold Weather Payment grant is paid out to eligible households whenever the average temperature in the area drops to freezing or below.

Not unreasonable at all - it's buried right at the bottom that you have to tell them about children under 5. Great to spread the word.

gamerchick · 21/11/2024 13:47

It says it's automatic unless you've just had a baby or begin to look after a child under 5 though doesn't it?

caffelattetogo · 21/11/2024 13:50

Yes, once you're registered it becomes automatic.

IVFmumoftwo · 21/11/2024 16:05

Just to point out you have to be unemployed if you claim UC to get this. So we can't claim it.

caffelattetogo · 21/11/2024 18:45

Sorry to hear that.

ImaginaryHorse · 21/11/2024 18:46

You don't need to claim it. It's paid automatically if you claim a qualifying benefit.
