If your Dh owned this coat, would you make it mysteriously ‘Disappear’

I hate it!

He has lots of lovely clothes, new coat this winter, but always pulls this horror out. A hillbilly, scruffy, donkey jacket.
I realise it’s up to him what he wants to wear and he’s a grown man and it would be wrong for it to mysteriously‘Disappear’

But…would you make this coat mysteriously disappear?

I wouldn’t now, but in the very early days of our relationship I gave one of DH’s suits to the local charity shop. However, they placed it in the centre of their window display and DH passed it on the way home from the tube.

PerditaLaChien · 20/11/2024 17:55

Id take it over a chavvy black north face puffer but hey.

Pomegranatecarnage · 20/11/2024 17:55

No. I wouldn’t try to control what my partner wore unless it was dirty, inappropriate or worn out.

Bloody hell some people on this thread have had a sense of humour bypass! I would give to my dogs to sleep on then blame them for stealing it, lol. With luck they’d rip it ..

Explain to me how that is funny.

Ilovemyshed · 20/11/2024 17:56

Its not your coat. Leave him be.

😂

My husband has a coat that I don't like; he still wears it, and we laugh about how much I hate it. It's only a coat.

BobbyBiscuits · 20/11/2024 18:00

It's quite cute actually. Probably needs a clean. But on a slim guy or woman who's quite tall I think it might look alright.

Willow12345 · 20/11/2024 18:00

I like it 😊

Bambooshoot · 20/11/2024 17:42

It’s hideous! Burn it, burn it with fire - and dance around the flames while it turns to ashes, rejoicing in its demise. It’s the only correct response to such a horrifically ugly piece of clothing.

Alternatively, maybe try and hide it under a laundry pile or in a box somewhere - but do note, it’s probably sentient, and will crawl out and take its revenge, no doubt by giving you a lecture on wrongthink, and repeating all the inane virtue signalling posts on the rest of this thread, in its raspy, sheepskin, leathery voice . . .

👏👏👏

When Barbour coats were in fashion, my husband had a long one that he wore all the time. It was fine when it was new but eventually as it got a bit tatty, it looked like a flasher mac or a shop lifters special as it had massive big pockets inside it, that you could put a weeks shop in. He got pulled several times for looking dodgy and I used to laugh my head off.

But there was no way he was parting with that coat.

I get on well with his ex-wife and the subject arose in front of her and she and I exchanged that look, it transpired he had, had the exact same coat before and she had gone through the same issue with him!

I just found him a coat he really loved and after he lived in the new coat, I put the Barbour in a suit carrier in the wardrobe to keep it "safe". Such a thoughtful wife! He still hasn't asked where it is.

😂What can I say, DH's tshirts are so terrible even the charity shop wouldn't take them.
OP's coat is YSL, in comparison!

LBFseBrom · 20/11/2024 18:06

I'd probably wear it.

Phonicshaskilledmeoff · 20/11/2024 18:11

Surely it’s in his interests in the long term if it disappears? Less likely to get the Ick every time you leave the house?!

LBFseBrom · 20/11/2024 18:15

He could wear it when doing work in the garden in the winter, or cleaning the car.

NewName24 · 20/11/2024 18:17

Rather worrying that 43% of voters seem to think it would be reasonable to get rid of their partner's things. Hmm

Can you imagine the response if a poster posted that a man selected which of her clothes he didn't like and got rid of them ?

Hulahoopalaver · 20/11/2024 18:23

I quite like it 😳. I'll get my coat!

oakleaffy · 20/11/2024 18:23

Beebumble2 · 20/11/2024 15:46

I’d give to someone with a cat or dog, it would make a cosy bed.

Absolutely this.
Sheepskin is really warm.
Bought a couple of shearling fleeces from Etsy and my Whippet loves hers- I kept one for myself to lie on {sofa} as so warm for a painful back.

Saltedcarameltiramisucheesecake · 20/11/2024 18:25

Put it in a 90 degree wash with a 1400 spin, that'll sort it.

MarjorieDanvers · 20/11/2024 18:26

Oh I have a similar (though obviously much smarter 😉) one!

@Shodan i like to pretend I’m Perry as I walk down the street! Takes years off me!

oakleaffy · 20/11/2024 18:28

Pet bed..? Dad used to have a WW2 Flying jacket - His Burmese cat used to love to snuggle in it.

A coat for Barbie's Ken!

friendconcern · 20/11/2024 18:29

I really like it, but even if I didn’t, of course I wouldn’t throw it away.

What would you think if your partner threw away an item of clothing that you absolutely loved, because they decided it wasn’t very nice?

ScottBakula · 20/11/2024 18:31

DecayingRelic · 20/11/2024 15:51

oooh that looks warm I would wear that

Me too , I like it .
@Cantbearsedwiththosepeskyelves if your DH decides he doesn't want it ( you can not make him throw it away) please send it in this direction. 🧥

VinylCafe · 20/11/2024 18:32

I get what you mean as it does look nasty. Many, many years ago a friend was getting rid of a black and white cowskin coat and DH said he’d take it. I had no idea why he wanted it but soon found he had removed the sleeves and wanted to wear it as a vest!! It was early days in our marriage so I felt I couldn’t say anything, especially since he was so proud of it but I really wanted to hide it away forever.
