I have made massive mistake, I am supply teacher who is applying for various primary teaching job at the moment. On my supporting statement for a job that I have applied for this week, I put the name of another school I was applying for a job or. Throughout my statement I wrote the correct name of the school numerous times but this 1 mistake has cost me any hence of being shortlisted for this job hasn't it?

I am so angry at myself, I checked through my work but for some reason did not spot this error.

I don't think so. This kind of error makes me chuckle if I catch it in CVs/Cover Letters I review, but honestly everyone knows it'll be one application in dozens you're sending out and these things happen x

EauNeu · 19/11/2024 16:14

I expect they realise you will be applying for multiple jobs and it's a small mistake. If they like your CV it won't make a difference

Schools aren’t in a position to be ultra picky. If your application is good, this little typo will not stop you getting shortlisted IMO.

VeryCheesyChips · 19/11/2024 16:18

With my hiring hat on, this wouldn’t bother me if it was the only mistake. I wouldn’t be naive enough to think you were only applying for one role! Don’t worry.

merryhouse · 19/11/2024 16:18

We used to roll our eyes and bitch about it to each other, but by itself it wouldn't be enough to reduce our pool by 25%...

edwinbear · 19/11/2024 16:20

I'd have thought they'd get you in quickly if they realise you might get grabbed up by another school if they hang about too long!

ChocolateTelephone · 19/11/2024 16:25

No, probably not. Maybe if they have a huge number of candidates and are looking for excuses to cut people out of the shortlist, but otherwise I doubt one small error will tNk your whole application.

ArabellaFishwife · 19/11/2024 16:27

Try not to worry too much. As a governor on an HT interviewing panel, I remember everyone wincing at one applicant's consistent failure to spell the school's name correctly. In fact he turned out to be by far the best fit.
Good luck.

Vax · 19/11/2024 16:38

Nah. If they like your CV they'll overlook that. Good luck.

UpUpUpU · 19/11/2024 16:46

Years ago I applied for the role of PA to the Principal but I noticed after sending it that I’d addressed it to the Principle!

He still interviewed me, made a joke of it, grilled me for what felt like ages but gave me the job. He then pushed me to become the School Business Manager and all was well.

Good luck OP!

Maddy70 · 19/11/2024 16:47

As a former Head, I wouldn't invite you for an interview. It shows a lack of attention to detail I'm sorry but that's the simple truth. Make sure you double-check everything next time. Don't beat yourself up. Learn from it. Good luck in your job search

Snap people up?? It's nearly impossible to get a teaching post these days, huge numbers competing for each post.

Big sympathies, it's tough enough out there without any errors. What a mess the government has made of teacher recruitment.

Depending on where you are. I think it's more competitive in SW but we have advertised 3 times for a head of science and not had a single applicant (excellent school with a very good reputation and results) and we haven't managed to recruit a maths teacher in years. In fact, in a department of 8, only 2 are not long term supply, and only 1 person applied for our French teacher post.
If the rest of your application is fine, you'll be shortlisted
