Absolute shambles.

We've come away to Paris for a few days for my 30th birthday and to visit disneyland - I knew the weather was a bit iffy but prepared for that but oh my goodness.

We've travelled with 2 toddlers, 3 and 2 year old (first mistake) and one has additional needs:-

Everything at the airport was okay, they were well behaved.

  • Assistance took us to the wrong plane and we waited outside in the rain for 20 minutes and then had to rush to the right plane.
  • The stairs to the back of the plane were deemed unsafe so had to go to the front of the plane and carry the disabled child all the way down the aisle.

Flight went okay.

  • Got to the airport and waited for the buggy and wheelchair for over an hour and then was told it's sent to a different carousel on the opposite end of the terminal so had to carry disabled child again.
  • Got in the transfer, told booking we had two toddlers and wheelchair etc he turns up in a car, managed to get everything in (just) but he has no carseats or booster seats but it's 11pm at night so felt like had no choice but to top it off he was driving fast, he even got a speeding ticket - bloody flash nearly blinded me.
  • 2 year old slept an hour all night if that, woke up every 20 minutes.
  • Got to disney and my app wouldn't work so needed to wait an hour for them to print our tickets as the computer didn't work either.

And then to top it all off the first ride we went on the two year old snatched my glasses and threw them somewhere inaccessible where they cannot be retrieved and I have no spares..

I need a cold hard drink but a warm bath will have to do.

We have three more days left, I'm hoping they improve even though I can't see 😅

Holidays are absolutely fine, be a shame to skip them altogether, but you really have put yourself in an impossible situation - toddlers, SEN and Disneyland. Good luck 😅

Oh god, that sounds awful, I’m sorry.

Holidays at that age (and with SN to boot) are hit and miss and the best ones IME tend to be very simple and with lots of stuff laid on for you. Full marks for bravery though!!

Looks like the weather should be cold but sunny tomorrow so wrap up warm and enjoy the sunshine. Then maybe snow Thursday which could be magical 🤞 hope you are not travelling then…if so bring snacks etc in case of delays!

Hope you can find some back up glasses 🤞

Yikes!!!
that sounds tough as at least some of it would be avoidable if companies gave their head a wobble about accessibility.

a holiday with kids is just parenting somewhere else, with less of your usual coping mechanisms!

but you’d know for next time to expect waits and maybe time flights differently or go for longer to have more days without travel. Perhaps asking for the trolley thing to take you to the other locations. Or to keep some small pram in overhead lockers if allowed? Plus to take car seats as attitudes to safe car travel vary shall we say!!

Fair play for trying. It sounds hard but you’ve done an excellent job.

YANBU to find this tough.

I took them to florida last year and thought this would be easier.

I was well and truly humbled 😅

DH has lost his coat as well to add to it all.

It's not the end of the world, just moaning and groaning.

I'd recommend driving to Disney Paris via Le Shuttle. That way you can have everything you need and your kids will have a bit of familiarity.

Holidays are a massive adjustment when you have kids but there's no need to end them forever.

Fluffyc1ouds · 19/11/2024 13:42

Sorry it's not going well! Holidays and toddlers are two things that just don't go together. I wouldn't put holidays on hold forever, but maybe for a few more years.

NaneePolly · 20/06/2025 23:46

It sounds like a good idea to go away on holiday but it can and often is a nightmare. Sometimes it’s easier to stay at home and just have days out.

Devianinc · 21/06/2025 00:53

Disney is torture in my mind. I don’t get it at all. The heat, the crowds, it’s just like hell to me.

Oblomov25 · 21/06/2025 01:02

I'm sorry but nearly all of that sounds avoidable.

coxesorangepippin · 21/06/2025 02:22

Sounds bloody awful.

How you get some specs sorted soon!

💐

As raw as it feels now, you will laugh a out it. And soon will come the days when you will dine out on it ....

Good luck with your next one.
