My friend is just about to have a baby. Her husband has always drank too much, admitted to my friend he has a problem but during the pregnancy his drinking and going out has really ramped up a gear. She has had a really difficult pregnancy with lots of complications. I feel like he's just treating her so badly. She messages me about it a lot but 1) I don't really know what to say apart from generic like I'm so sorry and that sounds so hard and 2) I'm reluctant to give my true opinion of how he's treating her because they are SO up and down, tomorrow it could be like everything is fine. Also, she has slightly turned on me before with saying "I know you don't like him" even though I've always been pretty neutral even when she is slagging him off to the high hills. I don't know how to respond to her messages.

That’s so draining…

She needs therapy. At the moment, you are her free therapist and negative energy off loading place. Draw a boundary- say you are there to support her but it is unfair on you to be in put this position. She needs to address this problem herself.

Don’t respond. She knew who she was TTC with. No point moaning about a bear shitting in the woods now.
