Litter on trains

Currently sat on a train, it’s fairly long journey (about 1.5 hours). I’m used to travelling on trains for work but this was a lovely weekend away with my partner and I’ve never had a run in with anyone.

the woman infront of me 10 mins into the journey emptied her bag and dumped all her rubbish under the chair.

this really annoyed me. I went to the toilet and when I came back politely told her there’s a bin close by. She went mad at me. Told me she was going to do it later and to wind my bloody neck in!

Aibu to have said something?! I don’t believe she was going to do it later. Why shove it under the chair and not either keep it in her bag or on the table in front?! If it was me I would have said “great thank you!” And just taken it…

Littering is a proper bug bear of mine so i'd have said something similar - YANBU

She's just gone on the defensive out of embarrassment because you've called her out.

Traveled on a train yesterday, 4 x teenage girls aged around 15 left their McDonald's shite everywhere. I'd noticed them placing it under the sear and almost said something, but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt! I wont wait again. Im so sick of vile litterers! Well done for saying something.

I would have just kicked her rubbish back through towards her. But I'm pretty passive aggressive.

Litter louts are the worst, and it's annoying because nearly all of the train journeys I have been on have people walking up and down the train fairly frequently to collect trash. They do tend to be long journeys though.

One of the best responses I heard was some after some man dropped litter and the man walking behind him gave it back to him
'Here, you dropped this'
'Well I don't want it'
'Neither does Coventry'

From my experience they'res not many bins on trains and they're too small, so you keep your rubbish by you or on your table until the person comes round to collect it. I've never seen anyone dump it on the floor or shove it under their seat!

Just be careful before you call it out! Twice now I've been yelled at/properly told off like a child on the train for leaving rubbish under the seat that was 100% there before I sat down. You can't even argue back as it always seems to happen when getting off the train, and you get all these scowls from other passengers (I'm a people pleaser, can you tell?! 😂)

Haha!!

I watched her doing it, casually taking stuff out and throwing it under the seat! Such a shame as the train was pretty nice and well kept.

I got some nasty looks throughout the journey! As she kept turning round to glare at me!
