Whenever anyone posts a reverse thread, they are always met with a chorus of 'Ooh reverses are so pointless & tedious - why not just post your side so people can give their opinions?' Surely it is patently obvious why people don't do this: because in AIBU they will get told they are BU pretty much no matter what they say. There is always someone (actually, lots of people) who are determined to tell the OP they are unreasonable and launch into a character assassination based on the most minor of comments.

So rather than gripe about reverses, how about more reasonable responses, rather than jumping on the slightest thing and making ludicrous assumptions - so people are more inclined to post their side?

YANBU - AIBU can be highly unreasonable, don't blame people who do a reverse
YABU - AIBU mostly gives fair assessment

Some people are cunty with their replies, but generally I think the comments usually match the AIBU, people just can't handle the truth.

The reason i don't like reverses personally is because it's dishonest and casts doubt over the entire thread. If you really want to know AIBU, post your point of view and you will get responses to that question. The clue is in the name 'am I being unreasonable'.... it's supposed to be from a personal perspective. If you don't want to risk some potentially blunt or harsh responses, don't post.

The recent, now deleted, reverse thread included lines from the OP:
WE are not comfortable doing X, Y, Z
WE think this or that
WE want such and such
Total conjecture - she couldn't possibly know the inner thoughts and feelings of the person she was pretending to be. So it's totally pointless and a waste of everyone's time.

It may or may not be true but how would anyone know? I know i'd be inclined to think there was far more to the story with anyone who did this and disregard a lot of what they said so, yeah, what is the point? It's basically trolling.

As I said in the other thread, if someone is playing games like that on an Internet forum where they don't know anyone, what kind of games are they playing in real life? It's extremely immature and gets people's backs up who reply genuinely and spend time offering real advice to the fake poster.

Does my head in.
I walk away from the thread when someone fesses up.

Just tell the story and don't say which person you are in it. That's preferable to some reverse nonsense.

IWillAlwaysBeinaClubWithYouin1973 · 18/11/2024 18:50

If you are referring to the current reverse, which is running 2 threads at the same time, it's completely incoherent. I'm with @DeliciousApples - just tell the bloody story.

TwattyMcFuckFace · 18/11/2024 18:52

I hate reverses. They're actually against talk guidelines but MNHQ never do anything about them.

If people can't tell the truth because of the sort of replies they think they're likely to get here on MN, they should choose another forum.
