Holidays for primary school children!

For those in the UK school system with primary age children.
How often do you take them out of school a year (if at all) and for how long for holidays?

For example -

one week a year
A couple long weekends
Twice a year
One week every few years

Or do you think that holidays should be in school holidays only!

We’ve taken them out once for the last day of term, but that was not ideal. We aim not to take them out at all.

I do think, however, that the price rises in school holidays are almost criminal and there should be a cap. Obviously that’s complicated (or maybe impossible) to implement internationally, but it could certainly be implemented on home soil.

Special circumstances like wedding and a one off long trip but not a regular habit of it

I have fixed pre-allocated annual leave. If it falls in school holidays, great. If it doesn't, I take the kids out so we actually get a holiday away somewhere once in the year.

Mine are 14 and 17 and I've never taken them out of school for holidays.

I'm going to take them out one day next year. Our school are pretty relaxed (scotland). I normally don't though, as one DC is really prone to sickness bugs so his attendance isn't great, and I don't have enough childcare/annual leave to cover the holidays as it is, so don't want to add to the amount of unpaid leave I need unnecessarily.

1-2 days a year usually around a weekend. We live a long way from family so it is really helpful if we can stay for a long weekend when visiting grandparents.

Thank you all!

So I think the general consensus is that people don't take them out of school during term time. Maybe the odd day here and there where unavoidable but other then that we save for the school hols.

This is what I think too.

Mine missed two days in October at the end of our holiday. The whole family - 22 of us, went away for a celebration that's date meant they missed those days of school. In general, they aren't taken out of school and we go in the Easter, Summer and October hols.
