I have such bad DOMS in my legs I literally can't walk up and down the stairs / get up from sitting without yelling out

What can I do ? I literally can't move properly. I'm in severe pain. I've taken some painkillers ( co codamol ) and it didn't help at all.

It's absolute agony when I move around, but going up and down stairs takes forever as I'm trying to put as much weight into my arms as possible. Sitting down and standing up is agony too.

It's only better when I am resting. 😭😢

Sounds more like an injury than DOMS, you should get some proper medical advice

MrsSkylerWhite · 16/11/2024 23:25

What does your doctor suggest?

Miloarmadillo2 · 16/11/2024 23:26

What did you do to cause it? Try some gentle yoga/stretching.
Next time warm up/cool down properly and reduce the intensity of your workout.

SendMeHomeNow · 16/11/2024 23:26

Massage or a foam roller & a warm bath may help. Keep moving otherwise you’ll seize up. Other than that it’ll just take time I’m afraid.

It's both legs and equal though. Very much like doms, just severe

I feel your pain OP! I have a few running issues going on myself right now!

But ... Are you sure it's DOMS? DOMS shouldn't be painful at all, just more like stiffness and aching - sometimes v bad and severe aching.

Severe pain is more indicative of injury???

Squats, lunges, leg press, the squats you do when you almost sit down but don't quite. Can't remember what those are called- box squat maybe ? Pulsating squat as well. Should have gone easy. I could not walk down the stairs after without my legs giving away. I've never had that before to that extent. I had do concentrate really hard to walk down the stairs after / and had to hold my weight in my arms quite a lot.

It doesn't hurt at all when I'm not moving. In my opinion it's doms. I've had it before. Although this is worse, but the pain is similar.

I had this the first time I did body pump and didn't go back for years, if was absolute agony. I go to the gym a fair bit but never had pain like that again thank goodness

Floralsofa · 16/11/2024 23:32

I've only had DOMS this bad twice. Your usual pain relief and time, anything else is a (very) temporary fix. 3 days or so and it'll be much improved.

And keep moving!

QueenBitch666 · 16/11/2024 23:33

Hot bath and foam roller. Got to say I love the post weightlifting DOMS Grin

I think another time I had it bad was after body pump too.

It sounds like my doms. Foam rolling. Hot salt baths. Stretching. Walks. Painkillers. Embrace it. Go lighter next time.

Turboislander · 16/11/2024 23:34

Hot bath will bring temporary relief. Ibuprofen and keep moving. Gentle walk will help

gamerchick · 16/11/2024 23:36

The only thing I've found that cures DOMS is a lot of protein, a lot of water and another workout.

Go back, it won't be as bad next time. Stick at it and you'll welcome them.

The worst thing you can do is let them put you off.

Definitely won't put me off.

It's just a bit embarrassing because I look like I'm injured, the way I move and walk. I just hope it passes and doesn't get much worse.

Hopefully it will ease soon. Have you just started working out? Or started a new form of training?
I think you should plan to go for a walk tomorrow it should help a lot.

GildedRage · 16/11/2024 23:41

fluids, protein and potassium (aka bananas). stay mobile.

DarkDarkNight · 16/11/2024 23:46

I had this after a spin class, it took around a week to ease. I had to steel myself sitting down and getting up from chairs. Stairs were agony. I’ve never known muscle stiffness like it.

I convinced myself I had rhabdomyolysis. I’ve attached an article as it can be very dangerous.

I did something similar with my triceps. Did a good weights session and next day couldn't lift my arms. Have long hair and had to hold the brush as high as I could and move my head up and down. I can laugh at it now but boy oh boy did it hurt.

100% another workout will clear it! 😁 I discovered this by accident when I had awful DOMS and had to do a cardio PT session. The first 5 mins were hell and then the pain just disappeared and didn’t come back, it was amazing.

BibbityBobbityToo · 17/11/2024 00:42

Protein, hydration and time are the only things that really help. Avoid Ibuprofen and hot baths, it can make it worse.

Cherry juice is meant to help too apparently, personally not convinced but it won't do any harm if you're desperate.

buffyspikefaithangel · 17/11/2024 00:46

It's so painful sometimes

I went back to horse riding after a decade off and thought I would be fine. Ha! Some poor guy in the carpark had to put my handbrake on for me as I couldn't do it myself

About to start spin again so I am hoping it's not too bad....

PeloMom · 17/11/2024 06:18

Epsom salt baths and time. Within 2-3 days hopefully you’re better

BiffandChip2 · 17/11/2024 07:16

You just have to wait 🙄 cocodamol won't do anything. They'll go after a couple of days
