AIBU to do my make up in the bathroom at work

When I get into work I often spend five mins in the ladies loo doing my make up.

A colleague told me the other day that “some people” feel uncomfortable using the loo when I am “standing around in there”. I think she meant because I am outside the cubicle doors standing at the basin/mirror.

I thought doing your make up at work was no more intrusive than washing your hands!

I think it's fine, lots of people do it.

Disabled toilets are for people who need them due to their disability, not for people too arse lazy to finish getting ready before they leave for work. Sadly I'm not surprised at this suggestion, the entitlement is becoming the norm these days.

Edited

I worked in a building with 9 floors and 2 disabled toilets on every floor. I used to get to work at 8am and used one toilet for 5 mins to get changed and do my makeup. Calm down.

@olivechuu

What about cycling to work would you consider “arse lazy”?

Nothing, but you know that.

If the toilet is unoccupied and not radar locked anyone can use it.

Thank you for demonstrating the entitlement.

Your being shite at communicating what you want to say isn’t my problem, nor is your burning desire to police what other people do in the toilet. God forbid another disabled person be in there when you need a piss, you’ll have to get your top trumps card out and start comparing stats to find out who the one true toilet user is.

Ah bless you.

If it takes just five minutes as they say it does, then get up five minutes earlier.

It’s not that difficult.

Imagine how busy the bathroom would be at work if we all chose to do this instead of doing our make up routine at home. 🙄

If it's an optional extra to the routine though it makes sense to do it at work if there's time

VanillaPlanifolia · 16/11/2024 08:34

DieStrassensindimmernass · 16/11/2024 08:13

The whole idea is that only disabled folk use it though. 🫣

How do you know the person doing their make up doesn't have a disability?

DieStrassensindimmernass · 16/11/2024 08:38

olivechuu · 16/11/2024 08:14

That is the very definition of “not anyone elses problem” 😂
why should anyone give a fuck if you “like” seeing them regardless of what they’re doing. What a weird thing to say.

Um, ok. 🫣

Eh?
The person doing their make up isn't in the disabled facility. 🫣

You think all disabled folk can easily use the loo on another floor? Not disabled, don't use the disabled loo.

TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 16/11/2024 08:40

It might just be 6 of one and half a dozen of the other - if you're standing at the sink wide-mouthed-gurning to apply your lipstick whilst they're doing exactly the same thing in the cubicle (with accompanying straining noises) trying to evict a bashful fighter of a turd-tenant.

I agree with others, though, that it doesn't sound the most hygienic option: you touching, brushing, dabbing at your face with all of those pooticles flying around in the airspace.

OP isn’t. Another poster has said she used to do this.

I don’t want to get up five minutes earlier when I have plenty of time at work to do it. Luckily martyrs like you get up five minutes early so the bathroom isnt busy 🙄

I’m not a martyr. Ha- if only you knew the truth!!

I just think do it elsewhere if people are moaning. That’s all.
Why do some folk have to name call and be so nasty. Seriously- it doesn’t make you a better person.

This will probably earn me "shocked face" emojis, but my office toilets are much cleaner than my home toilet. I could really do with a friendly squad of Portuguese cleaners coming round every few hours with the Jif tbh.

kitsuneghost · 16/11/2024 08:56

Why people can't just pee and poo in a toilet is beyond me. But doing make up woikd only annoy me if it was limiting sink space.

ClytemnestraWasMisunderstood · 16/11/2024 08:57

Why can't you get up a few minutes earlier and put it on at home, particularly given that many have pointed out that trying to use the loo while someone is applying slap is disconcerting.
But of course, if you are happy with airborne particles from the flush settling on your brushes and palettes, then applying them to your face, around your eyes and mouth, then you aren't going to chaange your habits

Who poos at work unless taken short??!!!!
I mean, I'd be backed up to buggery before pooing at work!

Edited: I read that as you used the disabled loo, so responded to that thought
Apologies

I poo before a leave for work and poo when I get to work.
I also poo again at various points through the day.
I have a very healthy diet with lots of fibre.

phoenixrosehere · 16/11/2024 09:11

If a public bathroom is only to use the loo and wash hands, then they should just take out the mirrors.

It wouldn't be my first choice, but working long hours and/or having a sensitive digestive system, then needs must.
I'm not sure why some folk are so judgemental of where folk poop.
I remember an acquaintance tell me she had so scared to poo on holiday that she actually took Immodium - tjis was an intelligent woman!
