Why are people boycotting Boots? Are you?

Deadbeatex · 14/11/2024 18:30

For full disclosure I haven't seen the advert yet, but I'll probably end up searching for it if I don't come across it naturally during viewing in the next few days.

I've seen the #boycottboots and have worked out it's to do with their new Christmas ad. What's the issue? Are you boycotting Boots or do you think people are overreacting?

Randomly choosing the poll options simply because as stated I've not seen the ad so I don't currently have an opinion either way

YABU I'm boycotting
YANBU it's an overreaction

'Yes, not all drag queens are gay. But to say they’re not discriminated against based on sexuality is a flat out lie.'

How are they discriminated against? Genuine question, I'm not being goady.

Or do you mean they are very unpopular with many people because of their over sexualised, misogynistic image?

Dundee1 · 18/11/2024 08:47

If you look in to it the black woman is a well known race baiter and is toxic to anyone White and British .and with all the 2 teir policing and government inference just now that is why British people are boycotting Boots

Pussycat22 · 18/11/2024 08:52

Yes I wonder this too. Really, apart from a fringe of very traditional or religious people, nobody cares what goes on in the bedroom or which sex people are into. We aren't living in some s28 homophobic state. I'm not saying homophobia doesn't exist but I'm not seeing men in dresses being targeted especially.

So they can't use the same bathrooms/refugees as women? So they're expected to stay in their lane regarding women's sports? So what? None of that comes under homophobia at all. its gender critical feminism and nothing to do with bigotry . Oh and it's everything to do with safeguarding of children too. Puberty blockers and all that.

It’s not the same at all. Please educate yourself. Black face isn’t because they identify as a black person.

Lol please read my post properly, I never said they identified as a black person. But they are mocking black people.

SpiffingOldBean · 18/11/2024 08:57

I wouldn't personally target a transwomen or make their life hard, I'm another one with trans friends and gay family members, we're all human, I don't care what they identify as so long as women's safe spaces are respected. But I don't consider TW as an oppressed minority in the same way that many black or brown people are. TW have the option to drop the costume if they need to (e.g. If they work on a bank or something they won't be wearing drag) and then put it on again for when they want to.

No, I won't target a trans woman but I roll my eyes when they claim they're lesbians or women or whatever. I am also too old and too ND to pander to forced speech and pronouns.

SpiffingOldBean · 18/11/2024 09:01

And yes it is the same as Rachel Dolezal. If she could stop faking being black and be fine, then T W can do the same. Trans is not a disability.

SpiffingOldBean · 18/11/2024 09:03

It's not even in the DSM manual these days . Because it's not an illness. They deserve respect and compassion yes but not pandering to. They can call themselves what they like but I wish they would stop asking for special rights all the time. By so doing, they infantilize themselves.

According to Chat GBT around 80% of drag queens are gay. Even without checking this you can tell from watching shows that represent them (e.g. Ru Paul’s drag race), or actually speaking to someone in the LGBTQ+ community (like myself.) Yes, not all drag queens are gay. But to say they’re not discriminated against based on sexuality is a flat out lie.

But to say they’re not discriminated against based on sexuality is a flat out lie.

That doesn't give them the right to mock another oppressed group (women). In fact, you'd think they'd know better! And be able to empathise with women. Instead of mocking us. Drag really should not exist in any form. The fact that it not only exists, but is cheered on, is testimony to the saturating and intense misogyny woven into every DNA of our patriarchal society. Blackface is wrong (rightfully) mocking people with disabilities is wrong (rightfully), BUT you with women - go for your life! Mock women as much as you want! 2024, drag really should no longer be acceptable in society now, but it some quarters it seems more popular than ever. As I said, that is because of misogyny in this patriarchal society.

Oh heaven help women took off men or men took off gay men. The shit would really hit the fan! On twitter there is an account where someone takes off transwomen (she only uses exactly what they say in trans own words on their own pages/insta etc, word for word). Transwomen got upset that a woman was sending up transwomen! A transwoman who is aping women is upset they are being aped for aping women. They couldn't see the hypocrisy and irony!

Oh dear…if you don’t want to buy anything sold by a man, you may not find shopping very easy anymore. Hope you don’t like Amazon. Or Maybeline. Or are planning to buy anyone a Barbie doll. And you don’t want to know Victoria’s Secret.

You are taking it completely out of context. Not wanting to buy make up from a man at Bobbi Brown or Chanel is completely different to buying food or a toaster. You seem quite touchy, are you a man that like dressing as a woman perhaps?

🤣
Subscribing to all the right wing sound bites and "catchphrases" I see.
Says it all.
You don't speak for all British white people.

Because most of them are. And this thread is a clear example of them being discriminated against. Just because you don’t understand something, it doesn’t make it wrong.

You’ve just proven my point by making some transphobic comments.

And just what are those 'transphobic' comments? Go on, post them? There is not ONE single 'transphobic' comment. Not....one.

And you know it.

Unless to you, womens rights is 'transphobic'.

I actually give up trying to educate these people. I really hope they’re not actual mums on Mumsnet because it means my childs gonna have to put up with their offspring one day.

Also bit homophobic here too 🙄 nobody cares what goes on in the bedroom or which sex people are into
Reducing being gay to just about sex.

Except it doesn’t.

Being gay or hetero literally is about which sex - male or female - you are into.

Also, Chanel is owned by two men.
