I'm a company director, along with my DH, and due to it being alphabetical on Companies House, my name is listed first.
Since we have been operating, I've been absolutely shocked at the every day misogyny that seems rude in business
For instance, and this is just a snapshot since August of this year:
Phone calls for sales, where I've answered (as I always do as according to DH I have a better telephone voice). When it's been a male who let's remember is trying to make a sale with me who has asked for Mr WillImNot. When I've asked what the call is regarding as I'm also the director, I've genuinely had times where the man I'm speaking to will say "oh well I would rather talk to (DH)."
Or the man who said to me "so you're allowed to make decisions then?" Yes mate, it's not 1950, I'm allowed to vote as well.
Or the classic "well I'd rather speak to the boss darling, can you grab him love". Phone went down on all those.
Today, I've had an utter ridiculous situation. We have to hire equipment for our business, this costs us quite a bit each month but no way round it. One company has been an utter pain in the arse.
His equipment is always on the blink, we were paying for one item which he later swept in and said was wrong- after he fitted it and said it was what we needed! He fit a duff replacement and so, after wasting money and waiting sometimes weeks for him to get back to us, I said it would need fixing today, if not tomorrow and it needed to be done once and for al as it's costing me time and money.
He responds with "what, do I fly helicopters do I, I can't do it until next week, tough".
Baring in mind I'm a customer and paying him, this is ridiculous. He then starts being abusive so I said, look you need to stop, I need someone reliable not someone who takes weeks to bother.
He responds by coming within an hour and removes the machine that we are a) still in contract with and b)we've paid upfront for for several months.
Don't get me started on the customers who are rude who then appeal to DH to "deal with that bitch/slag/c word"
Why? Why do men treat women in business as lesser mortals? I run more of these company than DH. I work bloody hard, and that's the result.
Anyone else?
