Hotel Cancelled

Just had a hotel cancel our booking for December made over 6 months ago with no reason given. Obviously I will dig further into why the booking was cancelled but AIBU to think a reason should have been given to me instead of just an abrupt cancellation notice? Or has customer service gone to pot?

I had this before with a week's notice.Hotel had been taken over by the Government.

It was a Novotel.

Did you book direct with the hotel?

StoneofDestiny · 12/11/2024 19:45

Booked with booking.com

Had the same thing last August, also with booking.com, didn't get given a reason either, infuriating. Hope you find something else.

Try booking direct. I bet you'll find they still have availability.

Yes could easily be something like this. In which case they aren't going to tell you. Or a structural default. Or they need deep clean the room as someone's been attacked in it. Or legionnaires. It won't be good whatever it is so I don't know why they'd tell you

Booked with booking.com

5 or 6 years back we booked a new year break in Paris. We thought we had booked direct with the hotel but it was a dodgy website. When we got to the hotel the booking had been cancelled. We never managed to get the money back. The website was galahotels. It turns out they were scammers and no longer in business fortunately. We always book direct with hotels now.

Thanks all - it was a genuine booking and genuine cancellation. Just contacted them to find out they are doing renovations that are over running. No idea why we couldn't have been told that - wouldn't change the cancellation - but would make us feel better towards the hotel. It's a hotel we have used before - a decent hotel - their communication is dire. Simply an email out of the blue saying 'your booking is cancelled'.
