To be horrified how much of a fat monster I look in pics

This is a bit of a light hearted post.. but I look in a full length mirror and I'm like - ok this looks ok.

I look at my face in the mirror and it looks alright.

Then I see myself in photos and I look like a fat monster.

What's that all about ?

Mounjaro? That's what I did!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 12/11/2024 09:05

Me too! I would be much happier with my looks/weight if no one ever took pictures.

Haha I am actually on that already, it's a long story but I'm still on a low dose. I've lost some weight but still look like a monster in pics haha

I'm the exact same.
In the mirror I look fairly slim and toned ( I do yoga nearly every day),
Hair looks ok.
Then in photos I look like a melting candle. 😭

I hate it when people take pics ! Hate it

I feel the same and I'm not big really, I think it's just bad angles

toodles9 · 12/11/2024 09:07

Zoom is the same for me.

Mirror view is ok. Zoom view = short, fat troll

Rewis · 12/11/2024 09:10

Yep. I started my weightloss in September (I kena I've tried before but now giving it a proper try) cause I looked at my summer pics and couldn't find any of me that I liked enough to post on Instagram. I looked like a ficking whale next to my friends.

noworklifebalance · 12/11/2024 09:13

Me too
I also look 20 year older in photos. Sigh.

Nothatgingerpirate · 12/11/2024 09:16

I don't know about a fat monster 😂
I'm a slim size but there is ALWAYS a double chin on photos.... always.
🙄

ShortNTall · 12/11/2024 09:17

Same. BMI is bang in the middle of normal range but fuck me, I look dreadful in photos. I think it's because I hate having my picture taken so my posture goes into hunch mode and my face looks startled or frozen in terror/awkward rictus grin. I just cannot pose and relax in front of a camera. Some people are just more photogenic than others, I think.

Therehastobesomegoodnews · 12/11/2024 09:32

I'm the same OP in that I look in the mirror and think I look OK - not great but passable.
But I've got a security camera that records activity in my garden. And I sometimes have to look at footage of that which has me in it. And oh its horrible! Can't believe that's what I really look like and that's how other people see me. It really really depresses me because it's not just my weight and clothes but the way I walk and my mannerisms that all look awful. Very bad for the self esteem.

Happyearlyretirement · 12/11/2024 09:32

I think it’s because you have good self worth, that’s more important than what you look like in a photo.

KnopkaPixie · 12/11/2024 09:33

There’s actually some kind of logical and scientific reason for this fatty photo phenomenon involving convex lenses, depth of field, shadow and er, other stuff.

Icanttakethisanymore · 12/11/2024 09:34

I'm not overweight (low end of normal BMI) and I look fat in some pictures when Im slouching or not at a good angle. Try to remember that people see you from all angles all the time, they know what you look like, they are not surprised. I tend to find that comforting. I do the same when I hear my voice (which is HORRENDOUS) but I have to remind myself that people hear me all day every day and seem to not mind.

comedycentral · 12/11/2024 09:34

Some people know how to pose to show off their best sides, I'm not that person- I'll stand their like a bag of potatoes.

Cuppachuchu · 12/11/2024 09:35

That's true, ☝️I read that, er, somewhere............. Definitely.

Sparklfairy · 12/11/2024 09:35

There's a joke/meme about this:

Mirror: Dayum girl you lookin' good!
Camera: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. No.

piscofrisco · 12/11/2024 09:36

I'm the same. I'm a bit overweight. But on pictures I look literally obese. And my face looks awful (it's not that bad in real life I'm told). This has always been the case, so now I just avoid being in pictures unless they are selfies which I can carefully arrange. That's a lot of faff so I don't often bother. When I'm dead it will be like I was never here if pictorial evidence will be all there is to go by.

ExitPursuedByABare · 12/11/2024 09:36

Same here. I know I’m on the larger end but bloody hell I look utterly humongous in photos.

curlycat · 12/11/2024 09:36

The worst is the security camera bit on the self checkout tills in the supermarket.
OMG I've checked behind me before to make sure it's definitely me on the screen😂

AlteredStater · 12/11/2024 09:41

Cameras are very unkind aren't they! I look about 20 years older and haggard in photos (which I try to avoid at all costs) and on Zoom.

Butterworths · 12/11/2024 09:43

I think (probably kidding myself) there is sometimes a funny angle involved. I have a picture of me sitting next to my teeny tiny 7 year old niece and I am nearer the camera and the affect is alarming. I look like an actual giant monster.

ETA - the stupid sofa is much smaller than most so that also doesn't help. It looks like a GIANT LADY sitting next to a normal sized child on a normal sized sofa but actually it's a QUITE CHUBBY SHORTARSE sitting next to a teeny child on a little sofa.

I clearly need to get a grip lol.

CrazyCatLady008 · 12/11/2024 09:43

It's a sad world when someone posts something like this and instead of people bringing op back up they suggest weight lost injections.
What's wrong with people?!

ClivetheDestroyer · 12/11/2024 09:43

I think some people just look much better in real life than in photos. Sometimes it's about how you move, how your face moves when you smile etc, and that can't be captured in a photo
