Work and new vacancy

I work for a care company as a receptionist. An admin assistant vacancy is opening up as one of the assistants said today she is leaving in a few weeks.

I was asked to have a try at a level 3 business administration course. I really want to do the course and feel the job would allow me to do the 6hrs a week on the job learning I need to do to fulfil the apprenticeship and the admin vacancy would allow me to do that.

I also want to keep my job on reception which is 8 hours a week. I love my job and I am the head receptionist. The current admin assistant does 30 hrs a week and I would have to give up two days of my reception role and do the rest as admin. Because of this I can only do 27 max.

I do 32 hours normally but if I add my reception it would take me to 42 hours a week.

If I do the apprenticeship there is no chance for progression and if the new admin assistant decides do stay for a while then the qualification maybe out of date when I use it.

Plus they have to train the new assistant on our policies and systems so why can't they show me and it would help the course to.

Would it be unreasonable of me to ask or do I not stand a chance in getting the role

Am I unreasonable for thinking of this
Or right and should suggest it

Thank you. I just don't want to look silly for asking
