Meetup photo disgust

I’m the Organizer of a popular Meetup group and we recently had our large 1 Year Anniversary event in a local pub. Ahead of the event, I decided to post that we will have a group photo at 8pm for anyone who wants to, and then went around and reminded members just before 8pm that we’re about to take our group photo and they can be in it if they want. There were about 50 of us in attendance, but I specifically remember speaking to two new members and asking them if they want to be in the group photo, to which they responded that they absolutely did. They are pictured in the photo smiling and posing!

HOWEVER, one of these new members has two months later changed her mind and been ordering that the photo is deleted and taken down from all platforms - including Meetup itself, that she didn’t consent, etc.

Where do I stand on this, please?! Don’t tell me I’m going to get them to fill in photo consent forms going forward?!?!

Update: other Organizers have received messages from aggrieved lady to say she is making formal complaints to Meetup and Facebook and calling the police.

Have you blurred her face yet?

Doglover321 · 16/11/2024 17:01

I have not continued to post her, but have an emoji app ready for if I advertise the group again or want to change my Facebook cover photo

What a fucking weirdo this woman is. 😆 That's all she's going to be known as. A weirdo! The fucking oddity who called the police because someone posted a picture of her - that she didn't like - on Facebook.

Does she think the police have nothing better to do for fuck's sake? I hope they charge her with wasting police time. Give me strength! 😂

In that case I don’t see this going anywhere tbh. You redacted within a reasonable timeframe - police might give you call just to log action on the file but all you need to say is you made alterations once she withdrew her consent. Hopefully she’ll get bored and wander off now she has vented 😂

I don’t think it’s even a criminal matter but civil instead (privacy law!)

Indeed - if she’s this exercised about things though god only knows what she’s said to the police - false allegations of cyber bullying etc. They are accustomed to dealing with bizarre allegations so I wouldn’t worry about it at all.

Bloom15 · 16/11/2024 17:26

Ignore her - she sounds like a pain in the arse

recipientofraspberries · 16/11/2024 19:46

Oh my god OP. JUST BLUR HER FACE. You've got the picture as your facebook cover photo?? Just cover her face up! Never mind this nonsense about whether she has a "legal right" or whatever. She's made a request and it frankly doesn't matter what her reason is. You are able to do it, it makes no difference to your life. I have a friend who was stalked and this is the kind of request she would make, and no, she would be unlikely to disclose her reason due to fear. For the love of god just do it. You're making a point on this issue for no reason at all.

Oh me too. I hate having my photo taken, very unphotogenic yet not that bad in real life.

Same. To tell the truth, I’m a bit of babe IRL. 😉🤣🤣

Why do so many people (on here) look so hideous and vile on photographs, but not in real life? Makes no sense. Confused

I have already confirmed that I have put an emoji over her face.

Depends on the emoji, doesn’t it?

What emoji did you put @Doglover321 ??? 💩

Doglover321 · 18/11/2024 08:40

She has now messaged our Assistant Organizer claiming I’m bullying her by putting the sunglasses emoji over her face….

Can’t win with some people

Does she still want/expect to be a member of your group?!

Meeeeeeeeep · 18/11/2024 08:45

I organise a meetup group, for group photos I tend to be really upfront.
"I'm going to take group photo now - no pressure to be in it, but it will go on social media to promote the group. So far no one has requested to be removed after the event.

I'd have used the turd emoji, so you are kinder than me!
She seems like she just wants to cause trouble and make everything available about her. Definitely make sure that she isn't in the NYE photo. Maybe remind everyone the photo is going on the MeetUp page before you take it.
Good luck!

Doglover321 · 18/11/2024 09:15

She was removed the other day after her persistent abusive messages and threats to sue. I have also blocked her from messaging me which is why my Assistant Organizer is now getting the brunt of it. But IMO a sunglasses emoji isn’t bad. She wanted to be unidentifiable

A sunglasses emoji was very polite.

I would have gone with the face of Donald Trump, Shrek or Voldemort.

Ee12345 · 19/11/2024 21:16

By any chance have you been posting about your meet up group in local FB group this evening? Have just seen a meetup post in my local FB group where someone in the photo has their face covered with the sunglass emoji and I thought of this thread straight away!

What a ridiculous and unreasonable request from the person. You have more patience than me lol!

Hopefully the police have bigger fish to fry!!

I doubt it. They love this kind of stuff
