I'm still seeing adverts for weight loss clubs on my social media and was just wondering what changes people have seen in their slimming clubs / other?

I'm on Mounjaro, I have a steady, slowish (based on other peoples losses, but I am happy with it) and having not used a slimming club in years, wont be going back.

I imagine there must be a big effect when you're seeing the 'skinny jab' results?

I was thinking that in the middle of the night while I was awake thinking whether to try mounjaro.
Honestly I have done every diet in your list plus many more. I am still overweight because it's true every diet I do I lose the weight then stop dieting and put it back on. The story of my life for 30 years.
I actually think all those companies will align themselves with the Weight loss injections so that you "learn how to eat properly " or something! I think Second Nature already have .

tobee · 11/11/2024 12:12

I would have thought they'd still have plenty of takers, at least for now as only certain people can get the injectables and for the (ongoing) cost of them. And also what to do when you reach goal weight.

However, I remember wondering this when they first started to become available. Not just weight watchers et al but the whole massive diet industry. They also rely on people failing and looking to trying new "wonder" diets.

It's a multi billion pound industry and I would imagine there's a lot of pushback although, presumably, not a linked up movement.

I often wonder if, for eg, posters anti jabs on here are genuinely ordinary posters.

tobee · 11/11/2024 12:12

Aligning themselves would be a sensible move @Catsinaflat

TwattyMcFuckFace · 11/11/2024 12:16

We had this exact same thread the other day.

Not everyone will want to take drugs, and not everyone needs to lose a lot of weight but will still need help to do it.

Peridot1 · 11/11/2024 12:16

Weight Watchers are already offering a programme for people on the injections. I get Mounjaro from Boots and they offer a reduced membership to WW for six months with it.

And WW are going to be offering their own branded version of the medication too.

TheLever · 11/11/2024 12:17

Aside from WW I don’t think they are doing well. Some will adapt and some will not. The VLCD business models do not align with taking medications because they want you to buy the food packs. I do watch this kind of thing from afar. One of them I know is anti WLJ so I can see them going under in time

I have an MLM neighbour who reckons she is doing a good trade with juice plus but I am pretty sure people are doing it with weight loss injections just not declaring it.., so this model might survive but it’s not based on honesty is it? No one is losing 5st+ drinking juice plus and keeping it off long term

Why would you eat and drink these awful tasting products if you could lose weight eating normal food just less of it on WLJ’s?

My local SW group is doing exactly this. I lost 5 stone with SW and managed to keep it off for a bit, but am now seeing some success with Mounjaro. The diet advice I found for Mounjaro goes against some of what the SW plan suggests, and I am following a low carb, high protein/good fats diet, I won't go back to SW. But for some people it might help.

doodleschnoodle · 11/11/2024 12:27

Bariatric surgery is another one. I imagine a lot of these private bariatric clinics will see their business fall unless they start competing to sell the jabs too. I'd think most people would prefer to try the jabs over surgery.

TheLever · 11/11/2024 12:27

@DeltaAlphaDelta79 I think SW will be ok, they will adapt. Some of their model is on the products but you could still eat them on the weight loss jabs and they will likely change their diet plan in time to work alongside it. It’s the VLCD companies that will go out of business. I know someone who works in one of the ones in this industry and they are not going to align, my friend is trying to get out because it’s obvious unless they do, it’s game over.

I think in the UK it’s not so much of an issue as the surgeons here offer other surgery anyway - it’s the Turkey surgeries that are already taking away their business overall, but there is still business to be had in loose skin removal. You can still get surgery in Turkey a lot faster and cheaper than a year on the jabs so I am not sure they are more appealing yet to everyone

gamerchick · 11/11/2024 12:35

Not everyone wants to join the cult of injections.

Some who do want to wait until they see long term effects/damage to the body.

This may not be the holy grail people think it is.

1clavdivs · 11/11/2024 12:46

I'm doing both: WLIs alongside WW. They help me stick to the plan.

WW has tool for if you're on WLIs and want to monitor your macros alongside points.

WarrenSpeck · 11/11/2024 12:54

It seems to me that many weight loss clubs have become more focused on a combination of nutrition and weight loss medications. Some use these types of medications, some use the clubs. It all depends on preference.
