Poor starving cat on my doorstep

There's a sad looking creature crying at my front door, obviously sad stray. What shall I do?

Personally I'd bring it inside, give it some food and warmth. Take it to the vet first thing in the morning and see if it has any injuries, medical condition and a chip.

If no chip, congratulations you have a cat!

This has happened to me! I have a feral cat sleeping in my greenhouse. I've put a bed in there for it.

Get it scanned. I was walking down the road when I saw my cat sitting in a neighbours window. I knocked on the door and said can I have my cat back please, they thought she was a stray yet hadn't taken her to be scanned, I was livid, they had kidnapped my cat.
Oh she seemed so hungry - yes I know, she will do backflips for treats.
Get the cat scanned before kidnapping it.

Just before the first UK Covid lockdown a cat started to hang around out house, skinny and with a small wound on her back. I fed her but also advertised all over to find her owner, no one claimed her and no chip or collar. She's our cat now, well fed and housed and loved, I feel no shame because if she did have an owner they didn't take care of her. I'd rather be a cat stealer than see an animal neglected or abandoned.

Makes a change from the usual dog hating threads, I suppose, but it is a bit strange...

Nah. Dog hating one started about half an hour ago. Dogs in pubs and cafes, dogs smell.. blah blah.
