To think this dinner is acceptable?

My toddler who is 2.5 had a cod fish finger sandwich for tea and 2 more fish finger on the side, he finished the whole thing and I gave him some Jaffa cakes and a banana sucky yogurt thing, that he's eating just now, DH is just home from work and asked what ds had for tea, I told him what he had and he seems to think it's not enough for a growing 2.5 year old.

He can be very fussy and I'm thinking it's a win that he ate that much at all but I'm being made feel horrible by DH. Please let me know if you think this is enough for a toddlers tea?

If he stopped eating afterwards he's obviously full! I'm sure he would let you and DH know if he were still hungry 😋

Anonycat · 08/11/2024 17:04

It sounds enough, quantity-wise. (Though some sort of fruit/veg as well would be good.)

whatatodoaboutnothing · 08/11/2024 17:06

Quite carb heavy and no sign of any veggies but it’s only 1 meal 🤷‍♀️
if the others are balanced dont see the issue

BenditlikeBridget · 08/11/2024 17:09

I would say it’s enough in terms of quantity but not variety- you’ve only told us one meal though so maybe the others are more balanced?

Trickabrick · 08/11/2024 17:10

It’s not a balanced meal but presuming you usually offer vegetables and non-processed food for other meals, I think your DH is being OTT.

Mipil · 08/11/2024 17:11

It sounds more than enough calories but there is no veg or fruit apart from a spoonful of banana purée in the yoghurt. Is he eating plenty at other meals?

Sparkletastic · 08/11/2024 17:11

Where's the veg?

This is what I was going to say.

how many fish fingers total?

so x number of fish fingers
2 slices of bread (with butter?)
jaffa cakes
banana yoghurt thing.

plus breakfast, snacks and lunch.

meh for one meal I wouldn’t worry.

loads of kids get a happy meal on a weekend and no one blinks that the child has had a meal! If you get the fruit or carrots it means all they had was a single burger and a bag of carrots but it’s still seen as a whole meal.

Mrsphilmiller · 08/11/2024 17:13

OP, are you new to mumsnet? 😕

LolaJ87 · 08/11/2024 17:14

I would love if my son ate that to be honest as he rejects all fish and meat and many other things... but this is mumsnet where nobody has ever had a picky toddler so prepare for some proper critique.

Stormyweatheroutthere · 08/11/2024 17:14

Why not an actual banana?

StressedQueen · 08/11/2024 17:14

It is plenty of food for a 2 year old, yes! You will gets lots of comments about the lack of veg/fruit more than the amount tbh but I really don't think it matters for one meal and it is good he is eating!

mewkins · 08/11/2024 17:15

This is more than my 10 year old eats for a meal 😆

CrispyCrumpets · 08/11/2024 17:15

It's not the most nutritious of meals to be honest. Swapping the jaffa cakes for some vegetables would be better.

JustinThyme · 08/11/2024 17:16

Other than needing fruit and/or veg, it sounds fine.

Megifer · 08/11/2024 17:16

<grabs popcorn>

namechangeGOT · 08/11/2024 17:19

It's fine OP. The Vegetation Police are eternally on patrol though and will nee-naw their way over to you for not whizzing up some hidden veg into the very foundations of your house.

StressedQueen · 08/11/2024 17:19

Also it is actually more than what my 9 year old eats (she is very fussy). It's obviously plenty of food if it is the amount your husband thinks isn't good enough.

Megifer · 08/11/2024 17:20

Couldn't you have made your own cod wraps and used finely milled carrot for breadcrumbs instead?

I've read too many posts today to know if this is sincere or not 😂

ATastingMenuButItsAllCrisps · 08/11/2024 17:21

Tell your husband to cook the child more food, then. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Pity she didn't catch and fillet the cod herself too 😕

No shit sherlock, I'm sure OP could have worked that out herself.

hahaha finely milled carrot sounds delicious and not at all time consuming. I expect all parents of 2 year olds are doing this on a daily basis are they not?

OP it sounds fine for a quick tea.

This is a joke right 😂
