Will an air fryer change my life?

Pondering whether I should buy an air fryer, will I use it or will it take up space on the counter?

I haven't used my oven since last Xmas so it's a yes from me!

Mlanket · 08/11/2024 16:31

@CiderJabs do you cook everything in it? Is it easier than the oven? I’m quite bored of cooking & need some motivation back.

Do it, they are brilliant. We’ve hardly used our oven in the 2 years since we got our air fryer. Get a double drawer one if possible. The only thing we tend not to cook in our air fryers are pizzas (cos they won’t fit in!)

Mlanket · 08/11/2024 16:39

I’m looking at the dual drawers. Family of four so do I need the 9.5 litre as opposed to 7.6?

I use my oven from time to time (eg for large chicken tray bake that I use a very wide tin for) but other that I use the air fryer for literally everything

CiderJabs · 08/11/2024 16:40

@Mlanket I have more than one 👀 and I use them for all kinds of stuff - meat / veg / pasta / rice / cakes. It's simple to use and clean, faster to cook and cheaper to run. No brainer!

Pollypoorly · 08/11/2024 16:44

Change your life no. But make loads of stuff easier? Probably. Part baked bread, roast veg, home made wedges, home made breaded stuff, heating ready meals. All great uses

Workiskilligme · 08/11/2024 16:48

Can someone please post a link to a reasonably priced 2 drawer model? I would like my dc to prepare their own meals without waiting for me to walk in the door!

OhshutupSimonyounobhead · 08/11/2024 16:48

Well put it this way I have not had a kitchen since August as having a new one. I haven't missed it at all now i have an air fryer. I barely switch on the oven now.

An air fryer in my opinion is just a small fan oven. Great for small quantities but I cannot do a full roast dinner for 6+ in one- even the dual drawer.

kids use it for warming up croissants- making pizza bread, cheese toasters etc.

I have a Ninja Multi-cooker which gets used everyday. It is an air fryer but it does a heap of other stuff too. Tonight I'm using the pressure cooker to make a mountain of rice.

Wasywasydoodah · 08/11/2024 16:51

Get the bigger one

bluebalou · 08/11/2024 16:52

It's been a game changer for me,ales life so much easier , you'll wonder how you've ever done with it.

Sherunswithwolves · 08/11/2024 16:52

I would buy the flex drawer if you can. I got one on Amazon recently for £175, so not much more expensive than the two drawer that you've linked to.

Chocolateismylovelife · 08/11/2024 16:52

Bigger one is an oven

MumOfOneAllAlone · 08/11/2024 16:53

Yeah I think so - one thing that irritates me about cooking is that I can't put something in the oven for later and then have a lay down - you have to wait around until the food is done else it burns

With an air fryer, I can put on dd's breakfast and lunch for the next day, and then head up to bed, knowing that it'll just need a few minutes to heat up in the morning

user876477 · 08/11/2024 16:53

No. Ive used mine twice. Its just a tiny oven.

Mrsredlipstick · 08/11/2024 16:58

Brilliant piece of kit and I currently have a small kitchen
Tefal dual drawer for four adults. 8.5L I think. Offer on amazon
Brilliant chips, roasts, roasted veg. Small joints, salmon.
I'm disabled so I don't need to bend down. Easy for teenagers snacking. Easy to wash up.

JustinThyme · 08/11/2024 16:59

No, it won’t change your life.

If you eat a lot of oven food it will reduce your electricity bill. Your oven chips will be better.

You can’t cook large amounts of anything; they are more suitable for solo or couples than families with several children unless it’s a very large model, and even then it’s rather cramped. Quite easy though.

I cook on the hob far more than in the oven anyway. The air fryer is no substitute for an oven when it comes to baking. I find the instant pot more useful and versatile.

Ours is used more for reheating pizza slices and chips than meals. It’s not an essential piece of kit, and it takes up a lot of space.

MyGentleNavyTiger · 08/11/2024 16:59

Had mine 10 days and used several times. Delighted. I’m already looking forward to seeing what it can be capable of.

Its fast, much easier to regularly clean than an oven, and saving a lot of energy if I’m only cooking (say) two fish fingers

i chose a Ninja double stack which has a big capacity but is space saving as it’s tall, not wide. Each compartment can also be divided, so 2 layers become 4. Looks good on the counter too. 😊

Idontevenknowmyname · 08/11/2024 17:00

It’s great if you only want to cook a single meal or item, but otherwise it’s only a small oven. It’s maybe a third quicker to cook items. Good for breaded stuff, chips, anything you want crispy. But it’s hardly life changing. Speeds up making a beige platter I guess. If you don’t have a lot of counter space or a cupboard to store it in then it may just sit there.

Ginkypig · 08/11/2024 17:01

I don’t know about life changing but I recently got one (with with shelves and a rotisserie instead of a drawer one) and it’s been used instead of the oven for anything small enough that will fit in it. So I would say I use the oven less than once a week now, probably even less than that.

i still use the grill (for toast) and the hob but I haven’t turned the oven on in about a month maybe.

i also rotisserie a chicken or a joint (as long as it’s under 1.4kg) every Sunday now (hardly ever did a big joint before) and it gets used for Sunday for dinner then the rest gets used for sandwiches throughout the week so no more buying sandwich meat.

i was unsure for ages and putting it off but found the one I got for £120 and thought even if I only used it for homemade but healthier chips it might me worth the money 😳 but have been pleasantly surprised at how much use it has had and I haven’t even tried chips in it yet!

WhichSock · 08/11/2024 17:02

We use ours reasonably often but it’s not going to change your life.
