Will an air fryer change my life?

Pondering whether I should buy an air fryer, will I use it or will it take up space on the counter?

I wouldn't be without mine

MrsCarson · 08/11/2024 17:08

I'm getting my mother a new one for Christmas, she's having a hard time lifting hot dishes out of the drawer as she gets older so I've got this one Argos
I cooked most of the Christmas dinner for 6 adults in ours last year when the oven died on Christmas Eve.

CiderJabs · 08/11/2024 16:29

I haven't used my oven since last Xmas so it's a yes from me!

I just realised this is also true for me!! Best gift ever.

menopausalmare · 08/11/2024 17:11

No, but it'll make meal times a little easier.

charlie202 · 08/11/2024 17:16

i only use my oven for baking. Use Ninja 9 in 1 every day / along with my hob. If i didn't want it out on top, i have cupboard space below to put it away, but only do that when people coming round.

Can someone please post a link to a reasonably priced 2 drawer model? I would like my dc to prepare their own meals without waiting for me to walk in the door!

I highly recommend the lakeland 2 drawer air fryer. Its on sale atm for £69. You can do a whole chicken in the larger drawer.
So sorry I can't do links from my phone but its on the lakeland page. Free delivery too.
Although at this stage I'd check all the prices now and compare once the black friday sales come in.
Enjoy

Def get the bigger one
I have the same one and love it

Flossflower · 08/11/2024 17:48

Going against the flow here. I bought a Ninja Dual zone just after Christmas last year. I did get it for a very good price. I use it most days but only to toast bread. There are just the 2 of just. I think if you are doing a roast in the oven you can put everything in together at the same time. I don’t cook things like chicken nuggets. I have always made lovely chips from scratch in the oven and they are not as good in the air fryer. There is not enough room to have them on one level. However roast parsnips and roast beetroot have come out quite well.
A year before I got the air fryer, I had the kitchen redone and had a place for everything in the cupboards, including the food mixer so I was upset to lose counter space but as I use it as a toaster it doesn’t really take up any more room than a large one.

Goldpanther · 08/11/2024 17:57

I had a ninja air fryer, used it for a few months, but got fed up of the grease that accumulated after cooking food. Reverted to cooking on the stove or in the oven as normal.

BashfulClam · 08/11/2024 18:06

i got this and there was a 20% off deal at the www.argos.co.uk/product/3631885?clickPR=plp:2:11

Theoldwrinkley · 08/11/2024 18:12

In contrast to everyone else, I think waste of time and money. We have a sage one which supposedly is mini oven, air fryer and microwave. Oven is pathetic, microwave us usable, air fryer is questionable as to whether it does anything. It 'works' (ie gets hot with fan) but takes forever to do anything badly.

sometimesmovingforwards · 08/11/2024 18:17

user876477 · 08/11/2024 16:53

No. Ive used mine twice. Its just a tiny oven.

Agreed. I gave mine away.

Witsend101 · 08/11/2024 18:24

I don't get the love for the airfryer, feel like I'm missing the point somehow or doing something wrong. We've got a dual drawer ninja one - it takes up too much room, is a pain to clean, produces a lot of steam and smells and nothing is really any improvement over cooking in the oven

GreenSmithing · 08/11/2024 18:27

Whether it changes your life depends what you have now. I don't have a microwave or a fan oven, so for me it's much faster and uses less energy than an oven.

Get a dual drawer one, that way you can cook a full meal. Otherwise you still have to turn the oven on which defeats the point. I really like the sync feature on mine which means you can cook two things at different heats for different times and they're ready at once.

TidyDancer · 08/11/2024 18:30

It actually has changed my life tbh. I work long hours and I can do healthy dinners quickly in it. It's been a revelation in this house! I have the ninja one with the two drawers. I haven't used the oven more than a handful of times in months now.

Riapia · 08/11/2024 18:30

Air fryers are brilliant OP.
Although they may not change your life. You might find that you may need a very passionate lover for that
😉😁😁.

Camelphat · 08/11/2024 18:31

Its a miniature oven. It doesnt fry anything. If you like the idea of a miniature oven on your counter then thats great.

Jmaho · 08/11/2024 18:33

I fought against getting one for ages as I thought they were a bit faddy. My mum gifted me her old one but it was very small and not much good
Decided quite recently to get one and we went for the Ninja flexdrawer. It's so good.
I do still use my oven but we are a family of 6. Don't use it every day though as don't need to now.
It cooks a whole chicken so nicely and easily and roast pots are fab in it
This week for the first time I cooked something not dry in it. Cooked a chicken chasseur which would normally take about 2 hours in my oven. Cooked it in half the time and the chicken wasn't dry at all. Just took the divider out and put it in a Pyrex dish
Would honestly recommend one

Mlanket · 08/11/2024 18:34

@GreenSmithing i have a microwave & panini press, I do like the option for different timings. Ideally I would have a new oven, range style but need a new kitchen for that.

Brilliant piece of kit and I currently have a small kitchen
Tefal dual drawer for four adults. 8.5L I think. Offer on amazon
Brilliant chips, roasts, roasted veg. Small joints, salmon.
I'm disabled so I don't need to bend down. Easy for teenagers snacking. Easy to wash up.

@Mrsredlipstick I just ordered this model on Wednesday from Amazon and was concerned it’s not dishwasher safe. Am I wrong there? Also, should I order any addition items? Somewhere on another site I saw kind of screen / mat things to put in the drawers. What do you have?

JingsMahBucket · 08/11/2024 18:38

Oooh @Ginkypig which model has the rotisserie function?

Ginkypig · 08/11/2024 18:52

Oh and @JingsMahBucket

if you get it I found a circular basket on eBay that the rotisserie pole fits through that keeps it turning that I think will be perfect for doing chips in for a under a tenner.

Wibblywobblybobbly · 08/11/2024 18:57

It depends if you use your oven. I rarely use mine, I cook the vast majority of things on the hob. So it is a bit pointless for me.
