Knowingly stealing - food shop delivery

Ponter · 07/11/2024 13:45

We order from one of the main supermarkets. On the day of the delivery (last week), I decided to cancel the shop as many of my plans had changed so i didn’t need some of the stuff that had been ordered.

Anyway, the food van turned up and I had a hunch that if I accepted the order I could get the groceries and still get the refund. Which is exactly what happened. It was a risk but I still needed majority of the groceries ordered so thought I’d chance it. We had similar happen once before but we were honest in that scenario.

Even if the supermarket comes back and want me to rectify the error/pay up I can do so - that’s no problem.

I know it’s wrong but I believe the majority would do the same.

Be honest would you?

No, it’s stealing.

Asda, the huge supermarket chain, will not notice this drop in the ocean of profits, take what you can bc you know they're charging above the odds anyway. Don't steal from people of course but this is a minor error on the part of a huge company that will not feel the difference

Again - these losses (theft, breakage, spoilage) do NOT come out of a shop’s profit - a percentage of the price of every item is covering this shrinkage, @Killjoy124.

Pherian · 12/11/2024 22:18

I only order what I intend to pay for. You’re a wrongun.

cassy16 · 12/11/2024 22:20

Its people like you with the same piss poor values and morals, that steal thinking its a victimless crime. This is not the case; the general public has to pay increased prices.

ForBetterForWorseOrNot · 12/11/2024 22:22

Once ordered a tv, on a buy now pay over 3 installments, they forgot to take the first payment. After multiple calls trying to resolve it the company said they had no record of my order even after I said I had the item. The person on the phone basically told me it would creat a major headache trying to sort the issue and told me if they realise they have indeed made such an error they would call me. It's been over 10 years now so guess I got that one for free.

Dobest · 12/11/2024 22:24

A thief is a low form of creeping life.

cassy16 · 12/11/2024 22:30

''I have to be honest we were hosting a dinner party which didn’t go ahead so the nice items - wine, meat just tempted me to chance it.''

''No hand on heart I didn’t orchestrate the whole thing but I know my friend had cancelled once from the same supermarket and the van still showed up. So when the opportunity presented itself I thought I’d chance it.''

''Well I would just make up that there had been a communication error with husband.''

''So I didn’t tell the driver that I had cancelled the order when he turned up as I had an inkling I could get away with it like my friend.''

All of your responses speak to your character, undeniable proof that you lack morals, integrity, honesty. Basically your a theiving tramp and wrongun.

Still not entierly sure why you brought it to mumsnet! Maybe to boast, but its clear you dont care what anyone thinks of your actions; so you should of just kept you deplorable actions to yourself really

JillMW · 12/11/2024 22:34

No! You are a common thief

ofcoursethatsnormal · 12/11/2024 22:37

Do you know it’s wrong and admit it’s stealing, you can afford to pay but just don’t want to. You are presenting yourself as an absolute twat of a human being.

girlofsandwich · 12/11/2024 22:42

I would have done the same when I was absolutely broke and really struggling to pay my rent, but my shopping absolutely wouldn't have had nice wine and meat in 😂 But I did once have an amazon order that wasn't delivered and the money was refunded so I probably can't talk. It arrived a month later when it was of no use to me as I'd purchased elsewhere, and I didn't bother returning it. And my cat has a spare water fountain just in case.

Oof, feels good to get that off my chest.

DieStrassensindimmernass · 07/11/2024 14:00

Are you going to phone and pay for the order you accepted (knowing you hadn't paid for it)?

Edited

Nope, reading on, it sounds like they are prepared to blame miscommunication with the husband to explain it away!

They are a common thief it would appear

DontBeADick11 · 12/11/2024 23:04

Why are you even asking?!? Shhh 🤫😂

Pumpkinsoup24 · 12/11/2024 23:20

I don't even accept the odd item that ends up in the crate that definitely wasn't mine.
Think you're behaviour makes you abit scummy. Karma always has a way of coming back at you.

boredoflaundry · 12/11/2024 23:24

@Ponter i really do wonder if anyone commenting has much experience of online shopping.
i genuinely believe if you’d phoned them and tried to pay that you’d still be explaining yourself nine days later and no one on the other end would know what to do or how to take your money!!
if they knew and wanted it they’d have taken it.
otherwise i suspect it’s a case of “computer says no” and you’d be eventually told not to worry about it!

Telesekuxe · 12/11/2024 23:27

No. You are a downright thief, who deliberately planned the theft, and deserve to go to hell after a stint in prison.

I had the opposite happen to me. They canceled the order last minute but still charged me and never refunded. I happened to notice by chance a few weeks later. Had to ring them to sort it out !

Also, was also charged twice when booked online tickets for something . Again, noticed by chance, spent time on the phone to get it sorted and was shocked to not even hear a ‘sorry’ - nothing, just ‘the money should be back in your account within a few days’.

PiggyPigalle · 12/11/2024 23:59

I collected a Tu order from Argos Friday night. Unfortunately Argos have been insisting I should go and collect it.

I phoned wanting to speak to a human, being told to collect something when it's in my possession doesn't have a box to tick.

Instead I got a robot asking me four separate times for the order number.
Sent an email, it bounced back.
They gave me extra time, until 21.30 last night to fetch what I already had.

I was returning them anyway so I stopped trying.

This morning I was refunded the £56, while still having their clothes.

I took them back and explained that I'd already been refunded.

What's the betting though I'm now on a blacklist of time wasters who doesn't collect their orders.

If that happens, you will see me on the front of the Daily Mail with my best sad face on, my Teddy Fleece PJs over one arm and holding the TU bag in the other.

DreamTheMoors · 13/11/2024 00:02

Every time I read something like this, I think about a line in a book I read once.
A spider came down on its web and said, “fushing feef, fushing feef.”
It was trying to say “fucking thief.”
Every time.

AnnieSnap · 13/11/2024 01:26

No I wouldn’t and I can be pretty relaxed about my responsibilities to big multinationals. That’s just major theft!

That might be true, but that would be the stores decision. She has deliberately chosen to steal it.

Iroll · 13/11/2024 04:35

Stealing is wrong. You had every opportunity to hand it back to the driver. If it's a genuine mistake, fair enough but deliberately planning your deception is disgusting.

Walker389 · 13/11/2024 05:32

I’m surprised they hadn’t already taken payment. When I order food delivery online the payment is in pending before the delivery arrives.

Also, you’re in the wrong for not speaking up

Couldntthinkofausername24 · 13/11/2024 05:41

I'd do the same @Ponter

It happened to me not too long ago. They cancelled my order but still turned up, it was Tesco aswell so wasn't the cheapest. Was actually annoyed I didn't buy more. 😅 wished it was one of those shops where you buy stuff you don't buy evey week. Deodorant, shampoo, dish washer tabs etc

No I have never stole anything else in my life. Yes I fully expect to be roasted here and no I don't care.

DivergentTris · 13/11/2024 05:58

I'm not an expert but there is an exception in the DPA where for the prevention and detection of crime data can be shared.

It would be great to think that Mumsnet could forward your details to the police now knowing you have come on here and admitted theft. It's a dishonesty offence, no one likes a dishonest person who would do them over if given the chance. The reality is I'm not sure how the act actually works and if it would apply here.

The shop at least, deserve to know what you've done so they can ban you and prevent you doing the same.

Half the time it's the principle of it that needs to be upheld, that society won't put up with thieving, dishonest scum and that it wont be tolerated because where would it then stop?.

animaginativeusername · 13/11/2024 06:35

Is this for real. Someone purposefully cancelling to not have to pay. It’s just wrong. Doesn’t make sense
