I jotted down some notes for my husband and he said I write like a doctor 😂

Aibu to say he is wrong and my handwriting is fine. (Also, anyone want to show theirs?)

YANBU - he's wrong.
YABU - he's not right.

No that was not a mistake.

I can only read that because I know what it's supposed say.

What you've actually written is: "The quille brain fax jumps owen the lacy day," to my eyes.

Incakewetrust · 07/11/2024 12:07

I'm sorry but I couldn't read it at all.

bifurCAT · 07/11/2024 12:07

DancingNotDrowning · 07/11/2024 11:37

I agree with your DH.

i can read it because I know what is supposed to say

brown = Braun

dog = day

fox = lap or fax

over, lazy and jump without context are illegible

brown = Braun

Well that works too! - OP is secretly German!

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 07/11/2024 11:40

It says
Visual inspection of bed for wear, deformation, corrosion and damage.
Check lifting actuators both ends.

Yeah, I didn't manage to get all of the words. Your handwriting is pretty hard to read, sorry.

Singleandproud · 07/11/2024 12:07

I can decipher most things having worked in schools for years.

You are inconsistent with joining your 'O', joining them all at the top would improve legibility significantly.

RadioBaBa · 07/11/2024 12:08

He's obviously never tried to read medical handwriting! If that's the benchmark your handwriting is lovely and clear.

Anonymousess · 07/11/2024 12:08

I read it only because it’s a common phrase. Your writing is difficult to read because there’s loops where there shouldn’t be loops. The first letter “T” looks like “e” for example

EilonwyWithRedGoldHair · 07/11/2024 12:10

I could read all the bed related example except corrosion.

My writing can be pretty awful - I minute meetings and if I don't type them up within a week so that I still have clear memories of what was talked about, I sometimes can't decipher my own writing!

RadioBaBa · 07/11/2024 12:10

As the doctor wrote...

Are you a gp?

Funnywonder · 07/11/2024 12:10

I can read the second piece of writing, but only with effort. I had to scan it a couple of times for context. I would probably get used to it if I had to read it all the time. A boss I had years ago couldn't read his own writing and regularly used to ask me to translate his scribbles😆 I could usually manage, but only if there were enough words, if that makes sense.

DoAWheelie · 07/11/2024 12:12

He's right. I struggled to read that. You barely form some letters at all and use the same shapes for several making it really hard to see the difference.

GeminiGiggles · 07/11/2024 12:12

I like your handwriting... but then I like a puzzle so err... yeah not entirely legible sorry.

Falalalalah · 07/11/2024 12:13

Your cs and ks are slightly difficult to distinguish, but I didn't have any difficulty at all with either sample.

Seeline · 07/11/2024 12:13

Yeh - I managed most of the second piece but read erosion rather than corrosion and couldn't get actuators at all.
I suppose context might help.
I can usually read most things, so I'm afraid your writing is pretty bad.

Limelimb · 07/11/2024 12:14

Its not very clear writing, partly because you tail off before finishing your words, inspection, deformation and corrosion, do not have the last three letters properly written, there are no visible 'n's at the ends of those words. It looks like 'deformatia'.
And a lot of your letters look the same the C of Check and L of Lifting is the same and very similar to the E. Corrosion could easily be Erosion if you dodn't know what you were saying.

I also have difficult handwriting if i write quickly and have to purposfully slow down if I need someone else to read it.

kab89 · 07/11/2024 12:15

The first was easy as it's a common phrase for typing practice. I had to work at the second one and pretty much got it, but I have worked with GP's who are known for awful handwriting. We had one (lovely) GP who couldn't read his own handwriting.

GasPanic · 07/11/2024 12:16

I can read it, but it is awful style.

A lot of your letters seemed to be made out in non standard ways and your joining methods within words are non standard at least by the way I was taught.

For example most people would read your last word as dey rather than dog.

So the TLDR from me is, your handwriting is just about legible, and generally qualifies as pretty crap.

Send the guy a text message next time.

foreverbasil · 07/11/2024 12:17

Stylistically it's quite unusual. The are a lot of inconsistent letter formations and the upward and downward strokes don't have a standard direction. It looks like you have learned using different methods at different times.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 07/11/2024 12:20

If it's any consolation, my handwriting is far worse. I was actually pulled up at the end of my University Finals, and told I needed to dictate all my scripts as nobody could read them to mark them.

Serves me right for refusing to do handwriting at primary school. I thought it was for girly swots.

Seashellssanctuary · 07/11/2024 12:20

....but are you going to tell him he is right 😀😀

Neuroticmillenial · 07/11/2024 12:20

He’s right but apparently messy, joined up writing is a sign of intelligence and a quick brain (think doctor) so hopefully that makes you feel a bit better 😊

amoreoamicizia · 07/11/2024 12:22

I can read it but many of the letters are formed in a non-standard way which will throw people. For example, the bottom loop of "f" is missing, the top bubble of "g" is not formed, the first letter "t" has been formed as a single loop from left to right without lifting the pen, which is not right at all- and so on.

tazzy73 · 07/11/2024 12:23

I have no problem reading either @Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast . Surgical nurse here so used to reading lots of different handwriting.
My colleagues would all think this is an easy read as sometimes it can take at least 3 of us to read certain doctors notes 😁
I'd say your husband would think yours was legible if he did read a surgeons note!
Taz.

It’s hardly a question of “being good at” handwriting, is it? She’s not 6 years old.
But unless op is writing in her diary for her eyes only, it’s communication for someone else and, particularly in a work setting, needs to be legible.

I'm not 6 either. My handwriting is really bad. It has always been bad. Endless handwriting books as a child didn't improve it, doing three essay heavy a levels, pre laptops, didn't improve it. With a lot of effort I can write legibly for others but it really is a lot of effort and the more I concentrate on the writing itself the more likely it is that I make spelling mistakes.
I'm also very bad at sports that require hand eye coordination. It's just how some of our brains are wired, I think.
