In thinking that people who voted for Trump will actually get JD Vance?

I'm pro democracy and so the outcome has to be respected whether people like it or not.

But it occurred to me yesterday that Trump doesn't look well at all. He's 79 years old and looks in very bad shape. It seems to me he's unlikely to actually last a full term in office. So realistically there's a high chance JD Vance will be president during this term.

How do people feel about that?

Also, do you think there will actually be an election in 2028? would Trump supporters be happy with no more elections if JD Vance were to just take over?

JD Vance is the better speaker and more statesman like. Trump still has a lot of energy so even for his age he seems capable. However, I prefer Vance.

FupaTrooper · 07/11/2024 09:27

I think I have more interest in how much influence Elon has and whether two such huge divas will be able to maintain a relationship

In regards to age... No one can be as bad as Biden, unless Trump actually does die which seems unlikely to me. I don't quite see what you see, he looks like he has lost weight recently etc.

If you think there's any chance of the people of the USA rolling over and accepting a dictatorship then you really need to brush up on American history.

What do you mean by this? of course there will be an election- why or how wouldn't there be?

Because Trump himself said to the Christian supporters 'Just get out and vote, you won't need to do it again. This will be the last time'. This is what Trump himself said so just taking him at his word.

The Americans seem very big on their Constitution, and the Constitution mandates an election every 4 years, I imagine there'd be a lot of trouble for any president who tried to ignore that.
(and I doubt there's any mileage in Trump attempting to rescind or modify amendment 22)

Because American presidents can only serve 2 terms.

mindutopia · 07/11/2024 09:33

Honestly, I think Trump will be assassinated. JD Vance has limited political experience, none at the federal level. He’s a bit of a showman as well and a bit of a facade. I also don’t think he is really who the average Trump supporter would vote for (He has an Indian American wife and celebrates both Christian and Hindu holidays). I think he’s less of a misogynist racist and probably not so mentally ill, but he has little to prepare him to be VP or President. They are both a joke, one is not obviously a narcissist though. (I’m an American btw, though thank god, I escaped a long time ago).

LetsChaseTrees · 07/11/2024 09:33

I don’t think Vance will become President unless Trump actually dies (which is possible, but unlikely). Trump may well become less and less capable, but look at Biden, he refused to leave and no one dared to remove him. My concern is more around who will be taking the decisions and who will hold the power.

There will be an election in 2028. Literally overturning the constitution would be too far for the vast majority of Americans.

Icanthinkformyselfthanks · 07/11/2024 09:34

@Brightbluedoor , I believe people voted for the policies and Vance seems totally on board with those. He could take over now and I’d be happy. Trump is amusing but Vance is more statesmanlike.

Yes because he cant run again. Holy moly- what exactly do you think he is going to do?

If they have a fallout, it would at least provide some dark humour, which we could all do with in this situation.

onwardsup4 · 07/11/2024 09:35

I was actually thinking he seemed in much better shape than last time he was in office, time will tell

It doesn't really matter about Biden's health, I'm not comparing the two. Its totally irrelevant now anyway. That comparison has gone.

Trump does look ill, there's no denying that. He slurs his speech alot. His memory recall is slipping. He's still over weight despite having lost weight.

If he were my relative I'd be worried he's heading for a stroke. Dementia is a big factor in his families medical history.

So with all that in mind, his chances of actually lasting the full term are not great.

So I'd lay odds on that JD Vance will need to step in at some point.

I don't know, I didn't say it. Trump did. So he obviously had something in mind or why else would he say it?

cheezncrackers · 07/11/2024 09:39

Well, it's possible. Trump is 78, after all. But everyone was saying the same about Biden and Harris four years ago and here we are. Biden is more doddery than ever, but so far he hasn't fallen off his perch.

cheezncrackers · 07/11/2024 09:43

As for how Trump looks - I think he's just exhausted atm - which is entirely understandable. In the run-up to election day the candidates crisscross the country non-stop, speaking at multiple events per day, basically living on planes. It's a very taxing schedule for anyone, but particularly for a senior citizen. The next two months he'll be busy setting up his administration, but he can do a lot of stuff from home and with people travelling to him.

Livelovebehappy · 07/11/2024 09:50

Trump is in very good shape as far as I can see! He’s 79, and has campaigned every single day across America for months. I’m a lot younger and couldn’t even contemplate being fit enough to do this. He will probably look knackered at this present time because of this, but I’m sure things are not going to be nearly as difficult now he’s president. He will have lots of staff/help, and if Biden managed to pull the wool over peoples’ eyes for so long with dementia, then clearly Trump will be absolutely fine.

Brightbluedoor · 07/11/2024 09:51

I guess we'll see @cheezncrackers

I don't see it myself. I see an exhausted man on the decline and everyone pretending he's still okay.

I didn't think Joe Biden looked okay either.

There should be an upper age limit for running for president.

Isn't that exactly what Trump promised them and they happily accepted it?

Thatsenoughcoffee · 07/11/2024 09:54

JD Vance is brilliant and I hope he’s the next president.

Have a listen to his Joe Rogan interview (it’s 3 hours 15 minutes). And read Hillbilly Elegy, or some of his articles.

He’s a great American success story.

I'm not seeing that at all, he's just that belligerent orange twit presenting his usual facade.

ThatsNotMyTeen · 07/11/2024 09:56

Fingers crossed Trump will somehow die, ideally before the inauguration. He’s worse than Biden now who definitely wouldn’t have lasted another 4 years.

Don’t know much about Vance but surely every American knows if something happens to the President the VP takes over.

And of course there will be a 2028 election, don’t be so daft.

cheezncrackers · 07/11/2024 09:57

I agree. I think the cut-off for anyone running for their first term should be 70. My parents are the same sort of age as Biden and Trump and no way are they at the top of their game any more. Both have slowed down a lot, they can be a bit forgetful, they get tired, their stamina is nowhere near what it was. TBH, I think Trump's stamina is incredible for someone his age. A journalist for The Times suggested in an article last Sunday that it's a function of his mental illness, which is possible.

Is it this 'Project 2025' that Trump may have been referencing regarding no more elections? Hopefully it'll never come to anything
