If you record a firework display..why?

Went to a school firework display tonight. A good proportion of parents were watching the display through their phones, recording the display. If you do this, can I ask why? What do you do with the recording after? Post it on social media? Watch it yourself?

For me, being at a display and experiencing it in person is the whole point so seriously intrigued into what the recordings are for. If you record please let me understand!

No, people did not sit there at concerts with cameras in their hands all night before smart phones. It just wasn't a thing

Some must have because my husband has the photographs to prove it. Late 1970s onwards.

The odd person taking the odd photo is not remotely the same as the sea of phones in the air all the way through that you get now.

I laughed at this post because a) that was me on fireworks night and b) it's absolutely pointless and I am annoyed I even did it!!

Can I just say how grateful I am for the people that film fancy fireworks and put them in YouTube because we couldn’t go out the other day and my kids were just happy watching them on the tv 😅

I record on my phone (I make sure I position my phone in my hand in a way that will capture the fireworks but it’s not in front of my face so I can watch the display) so that afterwards I can take amazing still photos. If you press play then instantly pause the video you can scroll through and take a photo of the perfect moment.
I also do this when wanting a photo of my toddler as she never holds still long enough to get her to look and smile at the camera. So instead I get the most amazing “action” shots of her which I would have missed if just taking a photo.
once I have the photos I then delete the video

I think it's weird. Went to one recently and people were doing it, I was videoing my daughter's reaction instead and a bit of fireworks to give context.
