Cyllene · 06/11/2024 11:21

Colleagues husband now works for large airline and both entitled to free travel and upgrades. No problem but AIBU to be sick to the back teeth of forever seeing on FB etc ‘ me with nicely chilled champagne In First Class lounge’ and ‘Seat 1A - again’. If IANBU what would an appropriate response be ?

OP posts:
Catza · 06/11/2024 11:23

I wouldn't feel the need to respond.

GinnyPiggie · 06/11/2024 11:24

Why are you so cross? If it was my friend, I'd be chuffed for her!

OnLockdown · 06/11/2024 11:25

Why don't you just block/hide them?

Katiesaidthat · 06/11/2024 11:27

I once flew with BA and didn´t know that the pilot was a friend of my aunt´s. I was upgraded and had champagne and got to sit on the jumpseat for take off and landing (pre-2001). I would be pleased for them. Envy isn´t a good look.

TwoBlueFish · 06/11/2024 11:28

Just unfollow her on FB, you can still look if you want but it won’t show in your feed.

OliviaRodrighost · 06/11/2024 11:29

I hate this about the British culture. No one is allowed to have good things, enjoy their life etc without someone moaning. I love seeing happy people enjoying themselves! I love hearing about positive things in people’s lives.

I’ve dumped friends in the past because all they ever did was moan and then make me feel bad when I was happy about something or actually love my husband etc.

TheSoapyFrog · 06/11/2024 11:29

Any type of catty response will make you look rather jealous, and I don't see what the point would be. Just don't respond, and maybe unfollow her for a bit until the novelty wears off.

ErrolTheDragon · 06/11/2024 11:32

It's not the colleague having perks via her DHs job which is winding her up, it's the going on about it which unfortunately stokes envy.

Neither thoughtless bragging nor envy are attractive traits. Try to ignore or unfollow if it's annoying you.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 06/11/2024 11:33

Why would you resent your friend getting this perk? Can't you just be pleased for her?

MidnightPatrol · 06/11/2024 11:33

Why is it annoying you?

Perk of the job isn’t it.

Gemmawemma9 · 06/11/2024 11:35

my Response would be
”wow! I am super jealous 😂 looks amazing! What a fantastic job perk. Enjoy every minute 😊 “
Bitterness is an ugly trait.

herecomesautumn · 06/11/2024 11:38

Bitterness and envy are unpleasant

However, I'd probably feel the same as OP I just wouldn't say anything

Or you could congratulate her on her good luck in marrying someone who can give her these things

Purplewarrior · 06/11/2024 11:42

I don’t understand. What’s the problem?

She is just a colleague. If you are so eaten up by jealousy that it’s affecting you, just mute/acquaintance/whatever her so you don’t see her posts.

It isn’t a tricky situation is it?

rayofsunshine86 · 06/11/2024 11:47

A race to the bottom attitude. Just unfollow or mute if you're sick of it 🤷🏼‍♀️

Allfur · 06/11/2024 11:49

Its not something I'd post about

TorroFerney · 06/11/2024 11:50

I think I’d be acknowledging the irritation internally not on fb and then spend some time thinking what is it that irks you. For me it would be the boasting rather than her being in business class but I’m a very much don’t sing your own praises. It’s always good to self reflect. It’s always a thing that comes back to you, it’s not what she’s doing it’s what it provokes in you and will usually be because she is exhibiting a behaviour you hate or one that you’d like and don’t have.

MissMoneyFairy · 06/11/2024 11:51

Why do you follow them on FB, just block them.

KrisAkabusi · 06/11/2024 11:52

Tell her you're incredibly jealous of her! Ffs, it doesn't need any response, she's not doing anything wrong.

notimagain · 06/11/2024 11:58

@Cyllene

If it helps maybe I should point out that airline Staff travel can be a double edged sword.

Do your friends ever post FB posts when they’ve been denied boarding because the flight is oversold or downgraded from First/business into economy because of the demand from commercial passengers for the premium seats?

I had both happen to me and family when I was at an airline..oh and never got a free ticket for leisure travel …but agreement vary.

ClytemnestraWasMisunderstood · 06/11/2024 12:00

The pettiness is astounding. So much envy

VioletCrawleyForever · 06/11/2024 12:01

Just block or hide.

No need to respond.

cwcanfo · 06/11/2024 12:28

If you're sick to the back teeth of it then simply hide her posts of facebook and you won't have to see them again.

There's no point in getting worked up about other people and their lives.
You don't want to see it? Unfollow. The end.

Absolutely the worst thing about moving back here after living abroad! I didn’t notice it so much before I got used to people being happy for me…

ILikeItWhatIsIt · 06/11/2024 18:15

Just hate like it and move on, like any normal person!
