Good experiences from conceiving in 30s?

Hiya!
DH and I held off on conceiving as we wanted to get our finances sorted before having children. We both had rough childhoods and wanted better for our kids than what we had.

It's definitely just anxiety but I've read horror stories of women having issues trying to conceive (I'm 30, will be 31 when TTC probably). Please would love some good stories to ease my mind? Have spoken to the doctor about coming off BC and have had blood tests done which she is happy with

I'm 33 and just had my first baby. It took a year to conceive but I think part of that was my body coming off of birth control. Once I was pregnant, everything was straightforward and I had a pretty good childbirth experience too.

Horatiostrumpet · 06/11/2024 06:42

You're a young whippersnapper!

Pregnant first month at 37 and 39.

CheeseWineBainne · 06/11/2024 06:44

In my circles the 'normal' age to have kids is mid 30s to early 40s... I'm in my late 30s, just had my 2nd child and I don't consider that old at all.

I don't actually have any peers who had children in their 20s!

@Cheshireicecream I struggle with not being in control of things I suppose, something I'm working on. I've done some researching on TTC and have seen conceiving in 30s being referred to as geriatric 😳

I had mine at 30 & 32 and am one of the youngest in the playground. A good 5-8 years younger than all my "mum friends"

PigeonTamer · 06/11/2024 06:47

Conceived my first aged 32 after three months of unprotected sex (wasn’t actively tracking ovulation or anything, just stopped using contraception). Conceived my second aged 36 in the first month of unprotected sex (again no tracking).

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 06/11/2024 06:48

I had mine at 37 and 40. Both conceived first cycle. I was never the oldest mum in the playground.

Daschund · 06/11/2024 06:50

I'm 50s now and have seen a big change in the ages of FTMs. In a lot of areas you'd probably be the youngest at NCT classes. It never crossed my mind that I'd have any more problem at 34 than 24. I got pregnant far quicker in my 30s as it turned out.

TooHappyToday · 06/11/2024 06:54

I had a Mirena coil from the age 28-38, had my coil out and started trying the following month and got pregnant straight away. Had a reasonably straightforward pregnancy and holding my baby now.

UnimaginableWindBird · 06/11/2024 06:56

I had my first at 31 nearly 20 years ago and I was the youngest mum in my antenatal class. I can only think of a tiny handful of people I know who had planned children in their 20s.

dragonfliesandbees · 06/11/2024 06:57

Hi OP. I had kids at 34 and 37. Conceived second cycle both times. Straightforward pregnancies and births. I was told with my second pregnancy that I was considered geriatric being over 35 (it was over 30 when my mum had me aged 36). But there was no noticeable difference in my care and it was never mentioned again after my first appointment.

I do understand your concern. I know a lot of people who struggled to conceive and had friends going through IVF when we decided to start trying. I had it in my head that it would take a while so was quite surprised when I fell pregnant so easily.

My kids are 9 and 6 now. Most of their friends have parents similar age to me - many are older. So please don’t worry. It’s totally normal to have babies in your 30s and there’s no reason to assume you will struggle.

RickiRaccoon · 06/11/2024 06:59

I conceived my two at 37 and then 39. I came off birth control both times and got pregnant almost straightaway.

Idunno8 · 06/11/2024 07:02

Had both of my kids in my thirties, pregnant first month of trying each time :), I think thats probably unusual but yeah thirties doesn't mean its automatically a slog.

BadLuck2023 · 06/11/2024 07:02

Thank you everyone. It seems like 30s really isn't that much different to 20s.

I was 33 and conceived after 1 month

Lovemybunnies · 06/11/2024 07:04

36 and 39 and two healthy babies.

BumpyaDaisyevna · 06/11/2024 07:06

I was 34 and 36 and it happened for us first month of trying both times.

That said I was a late starter with periods (15) and am late to menopause (I'm 50 and still very regular) so don't know if that has any bearing. In the sense I might have been late to lose fertility too.

I think there's a big difference between 30s and 40s.

GreyCarpet · 06/11/2024 07:08

I had my second at 31. Didn't even consider there might be an issue with conceiving at that age and caught first month of trying.

My sister in law had their child at 36. Tbh, I know loads of women with adult children who didn't meet their partners until late twenties and so weren't even ttc until their early 30s.

I had my first at 24, 26 years ago, and I was one of the younger ones. When he started school, I was late 20s. A lot of his school friends' mums were late 30s. So lots of babies born to women in their early/mid 30s!

I don’t think 31 is anything to worry about specifically but this is also one of those situations where other people's experiences won't really help you because everyone's fertility is unique to them

DreamW3aver · 06/11/2024 07:08

Where do you live that you don't know that it's totally normal to have children over 30? Whatever you've been reading must be decades out of date

One point to be aware of though is that your own fertility is totally unconnected with anyone else's, nothing that you read here will affect what happens to you

Thisismetooaswell · 06/11/2024 07:10

Had my three at 38, 40 and 42 with no problems

May I ask your health? I've had one at 37 and would love another 2 but feel a little unhealthy.

TheaBrandt · 06/11/2024 07:41

Is this a joke post? Literally everyone I know had their children in their thirties

Of course it isn't. I'm the only one who had children so late in my family. My friends are all over 30, family none.

I was pregnant at 34 recently (1st try!) and I asked if it was classed as geriatric yet and they said no. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 31 isn't too old to conceive at all!

Londonrach1 · 06/11/2024 07:49

I got pregnant at 41. Pretty much most of the mums at dd school would have got pregnant in their 30s, a few in their 20s and a few in their 40s including one who had a surprise dd at 44.

ZenNudist · 06/11/2024 07:53

Took me 1 cycle at 31 to become pregnant.

Never got a period second time round at 35. Just fell pregnant straight away.
