To think it’s impossible to lose weight long-term if you’ve been overweight your whole life?

I’ve always been overweight by about 10 pounds or so, largely due to my inability to stop binging.

I have a real emotional attachment to food. I’ve tried every single diet and lifestyle change going, and have never managed to keep weight off long term.

AIBU to think that if you’ve always been overweight, the chances of you losing weight and keeping it off long term are extremely low? If you’ve managed to do this, please do give me your secrets!

Depends if someone is willing to change their thought process or stay stuck in their ways that made them gain in the first place.

JollyPinkFox · 05/11/2024 19:59

It’s not impossible. Plenty of people do it. If you have a binge problem diets are not the answer, you either need a proper diagnosis of BED and appropriate treatment or some therapy to tackle the emotional attachment to food

Depends on the situ

Some people have pcos or thyroid issues

The stats do show that the vast majority of people who are overweight don't lose it. So I guess you are right. Doesn't mean it's impossible though. 10 pounds isn't crazy overweight so if it doesn't seem possible then you could just work on not putting on anymore.

If you are looking for advice on this one, Slimpod is good at rewiring the brain around food issues. You could give it a try.

oh please an “extra” 10lb is not overweight your whole life, you are overthinking

sometimesmovingforwards · 06/11/2024 08:26

Of course its not impossible.
Its just difficult and requires some effort.

Yes statistically the chances are very low if you've been obese.
However you aren't obese so the odds are much higher

If she is quite short, then 10 pounds plus will be very obvious on her.
