These children are about 8-13 years old. Some are siblings. They are running in the middle of the cul de sac.

What age should children stop screaming iyho?

Surely it’s nice they’re outside in playing together instead of being stuck in front of the tv?

Playing doesn't need to involve screaming. We seem to tolerate it now. Not sure why.

The reality is you do not tell others children what they can or can not do.

So if you aren't in control of the situation you can control your reaction. So I would advise ignore. What exactly do you see a positive outcome if you get involved?

If their parents can't be arsed teaching them to behave, who's going to?

Not strangers! It isn't socially acceptable.

They should be seen but not heard, eh?

ruethewhirl · 04/11/2024 19:09

Always easy to tell on threads like this who the people are that were/are happy to let their kids scream their heads off in public. Or unable to control them. Or both.

I don't mind them being heard. Just not heard from the next street

Better than sat indoors on screens.

Better for who? Not the poor neighbours who have to listen to it.

Not strangers! It isn't socially acceptable.

If children are misbehaving and no parent is in sight then of course it's okay to tell them to stop it.

I don't even understand why you wasted keystrokes on this when precisely no one has suggested anything even approximating 'seen and not heard'. It's such a tired old trope and it gets wheeled out on every single thread about unnecessary screaming from children.

Presumably you don't seriously see this as a binary thing, i.e. kids allowed to scream as much as they want/kids have to be seen and not heard?

No it is not and you really are naive to think parents won't react strongly to any adults approaching their unaccompanied children.

The children would likely scream more, stranger danger and trigger the 7million potential predator approached my child post with your image attached. Good luck

Kids playing loud is fine. Absolutely no need for screaming. Never tolerated it in either of mine.
