To ask your advice so I can advocate for myself with the GP

This is related to medicines but I will be going to a GP but wanted opinions.

I have PTSD from abuse in my childhood and health anxiety. I’ve been on venlafaxine for as long as I can remember. Recently due to an error with my prescription I ended up without them meaning I went cold turkey. I then decided to see how I went without them. Dreadfully was the answer. However I’m using this time to ask for another med as it wasn’t amazing for me.

can I have recommendations so I can loook into them and then speak to GP?

I have no recommendations, but I would suggest going back to the doctor and taking the NICE guidelines with you. They should guide you in what to ask for. Anxiety is tough; I know I have it.

Wasn't amazing in what way?
Side effects or it didn't work?
Medication is not usually amazingly curative for PTSD especially complex PTSD psychotherapy is the best treatment however you could ask about sertraline or paroxetine which are the other NICE recommended meds.
Sertraline probably has less side effects than VFX.

Look up 'RCPsych Cardiff Post traumatic stress disorder prescribing algorithm', there's a document that will give you an idea of some of the medications that could be considered.

Write everything down before you go in, you have less chance of being sidetracked, even if you just read out about how you feel and what help you would like.

Thank you so much!
Wasn’t amazing in that I wasn’t getting crashing lows as much but also no highs. Everything felt meh. Lots of sickness with it too.
every time I go to the GP I end up just being talked into trying it again. This time I want to ask for a specific drug and stay firm with it!
