My son's barber's tattoo

I took DS (9) to the barber's this afternoon. It's a shop we've used a few times before, now that he's pretty much aged out of the designated kiddy hairdresser, which is also a bit of a drive away, whereas this one is local and you can usually book in the day before. The shop is part of a chain. We've booked in with the two female barbers there previously but they were already booked up for today so I booked in with a guy. First time a man's cut my son's hair but he seemed perfectly lovely and took his time to do a really nice job on my son's hair.

So the problem I have is that the barber was wearing shorts showing a large tattoo of Andrew Tate on his lower leg. This had no impact on my son's experience at all, but made me feel uneasy that my son was in the company of a man who chooses to act as a human billboard for a misogynistic arsehole in his place of work, and worrying that this man can sport this tattoo so overtly with nobody batting an eyelid. And by paying for his services I am supporting him. I might be more sensitive to this today, as this morning I had a conversation with a colleague whose family member is in a coercive relationships with an Andrew Tate supporter and the details of this were really unpleasant.

I am not sure what my AIBU is. I won't book in with this barber again, but not sure if I should also avoid the whole shop due to their seeming acceptance of the casual misogyny. Is this just what barber shops are like or is this likely to be a one-off arsehole?

Also I feel confused. Surely any woman is going to run a mile from any man who supports Andrew Tate to the extent that he has him tattooed on his leg. Or as an Andrew Tate supporter is he so confident in his abilities to control and abuse women that he doesn't feel the badge of honour will hamper his efforts? I feel slightly regretful that I didn't ask him.

Maybe it was of his boyfriend who looks like Andrew Tate?

pinkyredrose · 02/11/2024 18:18

Since I had almost half an hour to look at this tattoo and compare it to images on my phone, I found plenty of Andrew Tate photos of him smoking a cigar

😂

You're gonna have to go back at least once more to get the pic to upload to mn so it can be fully determined whether you're allowed to go back a third time.....

Are tattoos of women allowed?

BirthdayRainbow · 02/11/2024 20:37

There's an advert for baby moisturiser on this thread. Random.

The guy who laid my living room floor loved Nigel Farage and told me all about it. Won’t see him again 😂

LunaNorth · 02/11/2024 22:36

Someone I know had their mum’s face tattooed on their thigh.

Unfortunately she bore a passing resemblance to Jane McDonald, so now he looks like a superfan.

oldcow44 · 02/11/2024 23:29

@housethatbuiltme that's their choice. If they want to deface their body with stupid shit that's up to them. However if they deliberately choose something designed to cause offence then their employer should at least ensure they cover it up while dealing with the public. It's basic decency.

I've known people get idiotic tattoos of people like Jimmy Saville 'for a laugh'. I would suggest with someone like Tate it's more because they support his beliefs. Again, their choice but they shouldn't expect to then be able to showcase it in front of the general public in a work environment.

TBH any grown man wearing shorts in November sounds like a bit of a knob to me.

Don't you find men who insist on wearing shorts in all weathers are the exhibitionist sort who want to be considered "characters"?

The addition of a tattoo, any tattoo, just makes it worse. But then maybe that is me showing my age.

I wouldn't go back there and if they have a website I would leave a review saying why.

This!

There should be zero tolerance for those people expressing intolerant right wing views.

Piss off, people are allowed to have their own opinions whether we agree with them or not. If the world is too much of hurty place with big bad words and pictures then stay at home and be a fanny. Nobody I know likes intolerant left wing tripe either.

PS; I cannot stand Andrew Tate

If that barbers is particularly convenient for you, I'd still go, but make a point of booking someone other than him. You are perfectly reasonable not wanting to be near someone who's enough of a twat to have that tattoo.

If you can't book one of the other hairdressers, I'd go elsewhere.

It's bad enough that someone would idolise someone that much that they have a tattoo of them on their legs, let alone that someone is Andrew Tate. I wouldn't go back. Besides which, every other shop on the average high street seems to be a barber shop now so you're spoiled for choice.

Petrine · 03/11/2024 18:52

It’s simple… go elsewhere.

It’s a barber shop - predominantly a men’s space, it’s not down to you to decide what the employees can or can’t have on show.

Kjpt140v · 03/11/2024 18:53

Was it Andrew Tate?

Judecb · 03/11/2024 19:04

That would be a hard no for me. If someone is such a fan of Andrew Tate that they have an image of him permanently tattooed on their body, that is a MASSIVE red flag!!!

Errors · 03/11/2024 19:20

Yes, OP. I think it is very healthy to avoid anyone who most hold a different opinion on something to you. Then we can all go in to our respective echo chambers and become even more divisive! Yay!

FWIW I think AT is an arsehole.

What about posties?

AlertCat · 03/11/2024 20:38

I’d tell the manager. It’s possible they don’t know who the tattoo is of. But it’s made you decide not to go again and so they should know this.
