Reading it now its horrific. People saying we heard screams- and yet did nothing??? How does a person just think that no im not going to report this, most likely because they cant be bothered/ dont want to be involved. Scum of the earth the dad is. The stepmother ( and her sister!) going on and on about how they feel bad etc and dont do anything!

I don't necessarily disagree with you about basic checks on EHE children's welfare, education etc except I do disagree with this statement 'If the child is thriving, the parents will have nothing to fear from regular welfare checks.' Some children/ families (particularly neurodivergent families) absolutely thrive on quite an alternative approach to education and life and this is often very poorly understood by local authorities.

This is one of my big issues about this idea that none of us have anything to fear from, what was the quote a few posts above, a few "regular checks". Anyone who has a ND child, even if they are in school, will know that they and the family are not perceived kindly or acceptably by many. And those in authority seem the least willing to accept different ways of managing ND. Regulating home education is not the answer. And yes I am also aware that families where children have big issues are often elbowed out to home ed in Y11, in Dec. (School census in Jan that counts for the national scoring).

Oh for fuck sake. Can you stop throwing the racism term around. What do you call it when someone is determined to continue ignoring important issues about certain cultures and religious even though they cause violent deaths

Maybe if you stopped flinging racist shit about the place, that would help?

Pretending that the bible's 'Spare the Rod, spoil the child' was anything but exactly what it said, trying to backtrack but still say 'but we don't do it now' (spoiler - yes 'we' bloody well do), ignoring the fact that women and girls of all cultures and faiths are subjected to violence and abuse to an extent that it has its own name now - Violence Against Women and Girls - is ridiculous and yes, is utterly racist. It also fails to protect the victims who don't fall into your neatly defined not white like 'us' categories of 'Those sorts abuse children' because you're automatically saying 'oh, only if they have mental health issues, whereas somebody of another religion/skin colour, it's natural for them'.

Don't ever think that possession of a particular genetic makeup renders children in that group safe from awful abuse and neglect. It doesn't.

Appropriate username.

And just like that, another racist pops up - like toadstools around cowpats.

I do not want a return to the death penalty in the UK.

Unfortunately the more people like you are pushed to the margins and not debated the more you will dig your heels in.

Diorchristian · 01/11/2024 22:11

@FfsBrian thanks for that link.

Like moths to a flame the racists come. Well done OP. You knew your bigoted opening posts would attract this sort of vileness I bet.

Lifeomars · 01/11/2024 22:12

This is a current case also on trial, a non-biological "care giver" and the child's mother both on trial for the death of this poor little girl.

Who are “they”? Immigrants generally? Muslim immigrants? Your neighbours?

Ignore the pigeon. This is an important discussion to have and it would be a shame to be derailed by it.

Random but does anyone find the house weirdly ultra clean and tidy and almost sterile? Doesn’t seem like the sort of house children live in, just all very strange. And where do they get all their money from? He’s a cab driver, not sure what the others do and they’re driving an expensive Audi and flying business class in emirates (just seen footage of them being arrested). All just extremely strange, I’m wondering if there is some sort of illegal money making going on there as well somewhere. Not particularly relevant I know as anyone from any background can be a child abuser - my own Mum for example, very wealthy, middle class.

I expect Sara was the house slave and that is why she was taken out of school.

I don't suppose the men did that cleaning. Or the stepmum who had 4 under 5's.

Saschka · 01/11/2024 22:14

TheSnugHare · 01/11/2024 20:22

It used to be a thing in previous generations but not anymore. If a British person is violent towards their children it’s usually due to mental health or because they are abusive, rather than cultural or religious beliefs. There is nothing in British culture or religion about using violence

If a British person is violent towards their children it’s usually …. because they are abusive

No shit sherlock. Of course people who beat their children to death do it because they are abusive. What an inane comment.

Do you think it is an integral part of Muslim culture to put your child in a home-made hood and beat them to death? Because it really really isn’t.

Not all people from the same religion/ethnicity/culture has the same beliefs, or will use violence or rape.
some will, including in our own culture and ethnicity.
you can’t decide that someone isn’t entitled to benefits because they come from a certain religion or ethnic group and make assumptions about what they believe in.

It's a side issue but I think she was taking out of school because they couldn't hide the signs of their abuse anymore, not even by covering her up. Questions were being asked and they knew that was likely to continue. Not to say that she wasn't also the house slave.

Diorchristian · 01/11/2024 22:15

Yes exactly, a male non biological partner. Not a step parent. Men unfortunately do lots of awful things to other men, women and children. Men need better support to address toxic masculinity mental health issues and a variety of other problems. Men. Not step parents.

To be honest I think it is part of other religions to use violence but it is interpreted differently to the many number of people that follow the religion and they don’t all choose to do it. They may follow other parts of the religion and not others

Diorchristian · 01/11/2024 22:17

@lemondropsandchimneytops they are referring to the extreme cleanliness of the house and how spartan it was as well.

Obeseandashamed · 01/11/2024 22:18

I spend my working days in the criminal courts. Unfortunately violence against women and girls is incredibly ingrained in white British culture, as evidenced by the revolving door to the crown court populated by white men.

I think the difference is that white women are more likely because they feel more able to access DV services and to speak to the police. For many reasons Muslims or British Asian women don’t appear to be reporting the violence. I actually can’t remember the last time I saw a Muslim woman (obviously I don’t know everyone’s religion but there are often cultural signs) in court as a victim of DV. Maybe as a society we need to think about how we can make it easier for different cultures to access help and to speak up.

This!! Many women from these backgrounds don't report crimes against them due to fear of stigma or repercussions. If they get away, they're just thankful for a fresh start and leave the past behind them without ensuring the perpetrators have paid the price of their actions.

As for child abuse- it goes unreported so often. As a society, we are conditioned to mind our own business and don't seem to want to get involved. When people try to, it's thankless!

FfsBrian · 01/11/2024 22:18

I'm shocked at how this thread has panned out.

I would like to say that sexual and physical abuse spans ALL cultures and religions.

The common denominator that spans across ALL this is men.
