Vinted refund

I bought a beauty item on vinted a couple of weeks ago. Lesson learnt and I won't be doing it again.

It was listed as new with tags but slight damage to the external packaging. Not a problem, I was using it for myself and know the item has an internal seal and I wouldn't have bought a used one.

Item arrived more damaged than listed (not really an issue in itself), but when opened there was no seal, half full and a different shade to the original item (I have an original item and took a side by side photo for comparison).

Immediately raised an issue and seller asked for return. I returned same day. Seller has picked up, but no refund yet. I was annoyed at having to pay return postage for low value item, but chalked it up to experience and didn't want the seller to get the sale for the item that is clearly fake/not as listed.

I can only assume at this point that the seller has raised a counter issue, this is what I can see. When I click 'view issue details' I can only see the details/evidence I added. I haven't clicked 'resolve this issue' as its not clear what this is and I don't want to inadvertently release the funds to the seller!

Is this just a standard vinted delay while it's looked into? Has seller raised a counter issue?

What does the 'resolve this issue' button do?

Click on it and it gives you some options. You didn't have to pay postage , you can insist the seller pays postage just saying for next time.

I didn't see any other option - I know that you can agree that with the seller, but I didn't think the kind of person that fills an item with another product then asks for it to be returned would agree to pay for the return 😂

You have to insist and go on at vinted about it. I sold something a while ago and without me knowing there was a big ink stain inside it 🙈 I paid for the postage for the lady to send it back - which was one of the options on the 'resolve issue' section, I cleaned it and washed it thoroughly and then resold. But then I'm a decent person! I wouldn't ever buy beauty stuff off vinted only clothes or soft furnishings. Either way you'll just have to accept a refund now, if you click and view the options that should be one.

I clicked it and these are my only options. There also doesn't seem to be an option to contact vinted about the issue. Looks like I just have to wait.

I don't even understand why that's an option - the item has been returned and the seller has it, so they could re list it if they really believed it was acceptable.

I got scammed by someone who sent a plastic necklace instead of an antique ring. Paid for postage to send it back and she raised a dispute about what I’d sent back. Cheeky mare! Vinted refunded me after I raised a stink. She is still selling. Vinted are no good for anything other than kids’ clothing, in my view.

Most of what I sell is kids clothing, but I'm having a bit of a declutter at the moment so selling other stuff too. I'll steer clear of beauty items!

I also mostly only buy kids clothes, or occasionally adult clothes.

I can't see any way to contact vinted. Do I just want for them to contact me?

Do not click on resolve the issue as that completes the transaction, and you will not get a refund, the seller will be paid and vinted will not get involved.

Has the seller definitely received the item back ?

Did you take lots of photos? Take screenshots of your conversations with the seller. Did you send it back as you received it, including the packaging it came in.

I would think the seller has raised an issue, probably saying you did not send back what they sent you, and unless you can prove otherwise vinted may take their side.

Yes, I think I sent it in the same packaging (inside my own packaging), but I can't be 100% sure of that as I didn't expect the issue to drag on.
I wish I'd videoed myself opening it. I did take photos though.

The seller has loads of other items listed, mostly NOT beauty items, and doesn't look like a scammer. But they have had a couple of questionable reviews, amongst the other 5 star ones.

One saying the item was fine but not new as described (4 stars) and one 1 star where it sounds like the seller wanted the item returned but it would have cost the buyer as much as the item so they didn't bother and just gave a bad review instead. Both these reviews were after I purchased my item, or I wouldn't have bought!

I think one of the worst things about vinted is that if you get something awful, and return it, you then can't leave a review so the person can keep on doing it.

MidnightMilkman · 31/10/2024 10:00

I messaged the seller and they just replied and said they haven't picked the item up yet.
Even more annoying, as I thought the item would be refunded automatically if they didn't pick up. Its been over 2 weeks waiting for them to pick up.

Did you do the return through vinted, or was it arranged separately with the seller.

If through vinted, I would have expected to see a different screen as it asks if you have returned the item and you confirm and you get the tracking showing.

Has the seller clicked her end to say to return, or did you do it all by message.

It is usually cheaper to send back if you use the vinted label. The seller would also have had the option to pay for the return.

If you arranged it seperatly ensure you put a copy of your receipt on the transaction screen so you can prove it has been returned also if you have used a service which is tracked you could take a screenshot of that also.

Some sellers will leave the return to the last minute to pick up, I don't know why, but it seems to be a common practice.

Last time I had to send back some items as they were totally different to the description, (listed as new but were covered in stains) the seller received them back and was not releasing my refund so I sent her a message saying I wished that I could leave negative feedback for a return as the whole transaction had been a disaster, surprise surprise I got my refund within minutes of sending that message as feedback seems to be really important to a lot of vinted users.

I did it all through vinted. And I did have tracking showing before, which makes me think the seller has picked up - but I'm not sure why they're saying they haven't.

Had similar issues with Vinted (and avoid now unless absolutely no alternative!)
I just keep pestering them - you have to hunt around for how to contact them. And just keep pushing.
I had notification an item I had returned had been delivered (map info etc) and the seller refused to acknowledge - claimed they hadn't got it. In the end Vinted refunded me.
Also, always pay on CC, so that you can do a claim and get money back that way if there is an issue.
