Good morning all. Quick question, would my GP laugh me out the door if I asked for an adult autism Assessmebt after scoring 38/50 in the AQ50 test? Any scores over 33 are indicative of ND. I cannot finance a private assessment.

No harm in asking Daffodil

Do you have a reason you did an AQ test? Do you struggle with things others don't?

The AQ is just part of the picture. They may not refer you if you've done an internet test for fun and its given a result. But if you did it for a reason and have other difficulties in life that are related, go with those. Explain why you want to be referred. Would a diagnosis help you?

Yes, my GP listened to me and my supporting evidence for why I thought I had autism. She then referred me, I was assessed within a year and then diagnosed.

I thought it was any score over 26

did you go ahead - request a referral?

i actually was told by my NHS cbt therapist to ask the gp to refer. i wasn't responding to cbt- fixed thinking but i didnt perceive it like that and social difficulty since i was 10/11.

if you feel you could meet the criteria and are seeing the impact in your life, i hope you asked for the referral to check it out.

NHS clinicians diagnosed me as autistic. it took 2 and a half years to move up the waiting list.

You're so lucky, I'm looking at a 2-6 year wait.

@Americano75 Yep! My area had practically no waiting list for autism referral or for IVF! It was Kingston-Upon-Thames.

No I don't think so. I sent my GP a right to choose request along with an AQ10 form and a list of the reasons why I thought I may be autistic. I sent the request to my GP in July, then was assessed and diagnosed last week.

It's a disgrace. Thank God it was easier for my youngest.
