I'm a recent convert to Strictly Come Dancing - only started watching it last year, really. I love the dancing, the music, the silliness, the camp, but I hate when the studio audience clap along to the music. It makes the whole thing sound ridiculous. They do it for the opening theme and then for any upbeat number. Sometimes a core of devoted clappers will even try and clap on slower more lyrical piece but then they peter out when they realise they're the only ones doing it. I'm becoming low-key obsessed by it and I need to stop going on about it because I know I'll just irritate my husband. But it obscures the music and makes the nuances of the dance less affecting, for me anyway. I think there's also a snobbishness to my feelings too - like I'm looking down on them for not being good theatre-goers, but it's not the theatre, it's a silly dance show, so do I need to get over myself or can I maintain my fury for ever?
