I read a few articles about asbestos in schools and now can’t stop worrying about it.
In addition I went to me LA high school my kids are due to go to and was really depressed about the state of it. ( although it’s supposed to be a desirable school) It was in such a bag condition. Not helped by it being a 1980s industrial style with exposed pipes etc in the ceiling which had crumbling lagging. Who can you ask to check on the state of the asbestos and risks. I could probably live sending kids to run down school if not a health hazard. I would move but kids don’t want to. Who is in charge and are you appealed to even ask?

Asbestos is only dangerous when I haled in a powdered form i.e. during demolition works. Perfectly fine to be around it otherwise

Not if it’s loose around lagging pipes though trom What I have read and if the building is in general disrepair with all the pipes on display due to the industrial design

How do you know the lagging is asbestos?
If it is 80's build then it is very unlikely but anyway, the school will hold an asbestos register which lists the areas where asbestos exists / possibly exists.

If it has asbestos the LA will have done an asbestos survey. You could ask to view it, but if there’s any concern it’s vanishingly unlikely no action would’ve been taken.

It would be nice to know though who can you ask to view it if you’re worried. It would help me relax.

It will be in school. When I was teaching all teachers had to read it and sign that they'd seen it. You weren't allowed to stick drawing pins in walls as, in the past, that had damaged wall surfaces potentially releasing asbestos particles.

I can assure you the LA and the school will be on top of it. Remember that it is the school staff's workplace and they won't want to put themselves in danger either.

i just don’t feel like the LA will definitely be on top of it. From what you read on line it seems like even if they know about problems there is not actually the money or impetus to sort it out
