Holiday split finances

Hello , how do u split finances when u go stay away with a family with same number count ? 4 adults 2 kids together . So basically we are going away for 4 days in a caravan . Beforehand us ladies said we will split the bill on food drinks and go shop together. Now she suggested we shop separately. Personally I find that a lot of food waste and money . I am sure kids will want share or have others dinner /snacks u know . Not sure, how we can come up with an equal idea? My partner doesn't drink but they do but I m happy to share our expenses but if they don't it's fine . I will just find it so awkward ,I think it more fair to shop together and split to avoid any disappointment. Maybe I am wrong ,pls help ? Ha

Yeah we always just split it. Just easier then everyone can help themselves to whatever.

@Justsmileanwave what would you say or offer to someone who doesn't want ?

We go away with our friends in a caravan once a year for the weekend. We take a meal to feed us all the first night, then they provide and cook a meal the second night. Third night we eat out. We buy our own snacks and alcoholic drinks.

Depends what you all eat - if they want to eat specific things or their kids are fussy, I get why they’d want to just get their own. They can’t be worried about their kids wanting other food if they don’t want to split. It’s up to you to make sure your DC don’t ask for theirs.

Personally, I’d split but my DNephews are so fussy, I could see why my sis would want it separate, for example

Given that they don't want to for whatever reason, you've got no choice but to go with it, and if it spoils things just don't go away with them again

@SophiaJ8 they normally are the same eaters . That is why I don't see the reason shop separate, because one night one can spend 59 another 20 ,I want it to be fair as we all are tight on a budget if you know .

It's fine to buy your own food and drink. Maybe could provide one evening meal and they could provide one? There doesn't have to be waste, you can take home what you don't eat.
