Am I being unreasonable. Reply's might be YABU which is you are being unreasonable and YANBU is you are not being unreasonable

Singleandproud · 24/10/2024 13:54

DD = Dear Daughter
DS = Dear Son
DP = Dear Partner etc

There is a list of acronyms some where.

If you post in AIBU you need to have a thick skin, Mumsnet can be fantastically supportive but AIBU is not where you will find it. So if you want and need support put posts in the right place like Relationships, or Teens etc.

Zimunya · 24/10/2024 13:54

Here are some acronyms which might help:
LTB - leave the bastard
DH - dear husband
DD - dear daughter
DS - dear son
DSD - dear step daughter
DSS - dear step son
STBXH - soon to be ex husband
IMHO - in my humble opinion

I am sure there are many more, but those spring to mind. HTH - hope this helps.

Zimunya · 24/10/2024 13:56

@Singleandproud - apologies - we cross posted on the acronyms. Good advice about the different places and being aware of the robust responses you will receive on AIBU.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/10/2024 14:02

You'll also see WIBU? (Was I being unreasonable) and YABVVU (you are being very very unreasonable).

But in answer to your question - YANBU.Grin welcome to MN.

NobodyGivesADamn · 24/10/2024 14:03

It means if you are easily offended NEVER start a thread here 😂

Singleandproud · 24/10/2024 14:16

I think we've all been very restrained considering this was in AIBU...my first reaction was "YABU unreasonable to start an entire thread to ask that..".but went for something a bit more helpful 🤣

iyaT · 11/04/2026 10:06

RTT read (present or past tense according to context) the thread
RTFT read the fucking thread
HTH hope that helps: a short patronising put down to boost the user’s feelings of moral superiority
WWYD what would you do?

When in doubt, Google

awfulapril · 11/04/2026 10:54

Try Google !

Trusttheawesome · 11/04/2026 10:55

This thread reminds me of the abbreviations I’ve mis understood on mumsnet. There was a SW (sex worker?) during Covid lockdown, who was saying that due to her work with CP clients (cerebral palsy? Oooh, that’s nice, that prostitutes are happy to service their needs……) she was finding it impossible to adhere to distancing rules. Well, she would, wouldn’t she? Except she was actually a Social Worker dealing with Child Protection Grin.

Just to be clear, that is not how I intended HTH to be perceived in this thread. But everyone has a different take.

This reminds me of hanging around the TTC (trying to conceive) threads and reading lots of mentions of CM (cervical mucus). Then seeing a thread title that was something like friend wants to see my CM... meaning childminder.

GardeningMummy · 13/04/2026 13:00

DH/DD/DS has always been Darling Husband/Darling Daughter/Darling Son. Not sure where ‘dear’ came from!
