I will never watch his programme again. What a threat. But seriously, he really gives me the ick. I have heard so many tales of his womanising. He just feels stuck in the 2000s. AIBU to ask which celebrities you think have had their day? Zoe Ball (too 90's and eager), Tess Daly (stiff and odd), Claudia Winkleman (obvious and boring), or is it just me?

Christ he annoys the tits off me.

I wont watch him.
The one occasion i did recently (ill and couldn't be arsed to get up and find the remote when he came on) he tested the ripeness of an advocado by crushing it to fuck in his fist 🙄🙄

My eyes rolled back so hard they nearly went down the back of the sofa.

AnImaginaryCat · 22/10/2024 08:37

Way back when he was patronising poor people (and awarding himself extra points if the poor person was fat). I really wanted him to do a programme where he and his entire family moved into flat in an econoncally disadvantaged area. The flat would have in it the standard items afforded to those around. (As in the kitchen would equiped with one or two knives and a few pots and pans and not chef's knives and pots and pans identified by a name). In the cupboard would be ordinary supplies the average person has) and obviously a flat screen TV, he was so critical about.

My plan was, he would stay there for a month and only have access to the average monthly budget of families in the area, from which he would finals life - paid rent and bills etc

I'd be interested to see what he'd have cooked then.

Would he have wipped up a feast every night and entertained the kids and never turned on that TV? Would he have spent the money on ingredients and then been confused as to why there was no electricity to use the cooker? Would he have paid the bills and gone to the butcher in the bus and been shocked to discovered he could afforrd a leg of lamb?
So many possibilities - and we'll never know because I sadly didn't work in TV.

Laiste · 22/10/2024 08:41

Yeah i vaguely remember him doing some 'family on a budget' thing and start by slapping a whole half filet of Scotish salmon on the table ....

twat

His first two cookbooks stand up well. Becoming Jamie™️ the brand was a bit much, he was ubiquitous and overextended his reach. But I do think he meant well.

I love Claudia. The best phase of competition telly was Mel and Sue on Bake Off and Claude in Sewing Bee.

Itsmychristmasdress · 22/10/2024 08:44

I love his ministry of food cook book. A really basic one that anyone can use .

This is brilliant. I would love to see this and would love to see you as a TV Commissioner type person.

PandoraSox · 22/10/2024 08:48

He can be a bit annoying, but I use quite a few of his more down to earth recipes and they really work.

I cannot watch him anymore, he drives me insane.

The MN web chat when he'd just brought out the bargain cooking book and got his fat tongue handed to him on a plate though was one of my favourite moments on this site, and I've been here since it was all green fields.

Sgtmajormummy · 22/10/2024 09:07

The only time I haven’t felt full-on motherly love for Jamie was when he turned his nose up about using a microwave to cook a £1-per-portion meal (and repeatedly using “a kiss” for olive oil).

Yes, he’s in it to make money (who isn’t?) and showbiz parents are notorious for promoting their kids, but his school meals and prisoner recovery projects make up for that in my eyes.

ThornVampire · 22/10/2024 09:15

I dont know why you watch it in the first place - assuming you are talking about Oliver?

I'm surprised anyone watches him, he is so annoying - from when he did the shows with his "mates" ew

Soonenough · 22/10/2024 09:24

I hated watching him since his Toploader "Dancing in the Moonlight " phase. Fuck Off with your trendy freeloading friends being oh so cool and making the rest of us feel like Nobby No Mates losers. 😂

Devillishlooloo · 22/10/2024 09:30

I actually quite like him although I agree he’s out of touch with the real world of shopping and cooking. Sometimes I buy a joint of shoulder of pork and use it for his recipes. It actually works out quite cheap. Lamb is much dearer though and not quite as versatile.

I love Claudia. She’s ever so slightly bonkers, which I find hilarious.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 22/10/2024 09:38

I think his recipes are excellent, and I'm not interested in the gossip.

pumpkinpam · 22/10/2024 09:40

The way he says 'go in with' or 'whack it in' when he's simply adding an ingredient to the pot fucks me off no end.

Itsmychristmasdress · 22/10/2024 08:26

I don't mind him. Never ever read anything about womanising. I also think as a dyslexic man he is a good advocate. He speaks openly about feeling stupid most of his life and the support he wishes he had at school. I also admire his healthy school campaign.

Agree. This is a wierd thread.

Ooooo can you please post the link for that. I can't find it anywhere.

vincettenoir · 22/10/2024 09:43

I actually like him. He is a bit of a parody of himself but he’s no worse than Nigella and you can tell he’s genuinely passionate about food.

I find Nigel Slater a bit twee and annoying and living in a middle class bubble when at least Jamie tries to make recipes accessible.

Tbf NS isn’t on telly anymore I only ever see him on repeats.

VimtoVimto · 22/10/2024 09:49

It’s the assumption that everyone has easy access to all his cheffy ingredients.

His best book and series was Ministry of Food.

I did hear from someone in the know, that the plan was to use his real mates but they were too boring or not telegenic so that hired actors.

He's one I absolutely detest. My all time favourite was him going through 'his' kitchen garden and getting basic bloody herbs wrong. Twat.

Me too and when he started reporting to government committees about the sugar tax, that finished it for me. All the artificial sweeteners give me unpleasant symptoms. Fever Tree is my saviour.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 22/10/2024 12:11

Watched the first two episodes, Fast and Simple my large backside. He's as irritating as hell and I can't figure out what he's done to his face. Is it just middle aged plumping or has he had work done? He's starting to look like Gordon Ramsey.

Oneearringlost · 22/10/2024 12:38

Tbf, last night's shoulder of lamb dish, also featured fish cakes made with tinned tuna and tinned potatoes...

Oneearringlost · 22/10/2024 12:45

I like him...his recipes work, I don't care about celeb gossip, I just want a nice dish that works, and he manages it, for me, anyway.

This show needs making. It’ll be a ratings smash. Any tv execs out there?
