Replace lost glasses

My ex MIL bought my 7 year daughter some expensive glasses, I wasn’t consulted. It is not something I could afford being a single parent with 4 children, I normally opt for NHS lenses.

Anyway, the issue is my daughter has lost them in my house. I’ve searched everywhere with no luck and she can’t remember where she put them. I’m in the process of moving house so boxes are everywhere and things are a bit more chaotic than normal.

He is insisting that if I can’t find them (I’m trying) I have to replace them. I don’t have the money for this.

YABU - Of course you need to replace them, they were lost in your house.

YANBU - Can replace with cheaper NHS glasses

It’s causing a lot of conflict.

7 year old dc do not need expensive items. Exh used to send 3 x dc under 7 to my home with lots of tech. Which was kept in the cupboard until they took them back with them... Not being responsible for such things. Tell your relative they can come look or stfu.. NHS specs are fine....

They have special lenses that are supposed to help with short-sightedness hence the cost. It’s not something I would have afforded (they didn’t ask my opinion) and I have always got the NHS ones and perhaps one day she can have corrective surgery.

I can understand their frustration but it wasn’t a deliberate thing. They are not happy.
