To list the reasons I love my plug in hoover and not the cordless?!

It doesn’t conk out after 5 minutes of hard work (ok, 10, but the stairs alone are lengthy given the two dogs/my hair moulting, I start praying at about 8 minutes 🤣)

It doesn’t sound like a plane taking off and cause my DH’s tinnitus to start up.

It doesn’t refuse to pick up a micro particle of dust-god forbid it be more than 3 cm away, no chance!

The head doesn’t stop turning due to dog and my hair getting caught up in the spindle.

It doesn’t do the stop/start thing then conk out because the filter needs taking out and smacking against a hard surface to shake out the dust.

It doesn’t faint or sulk at being used more than once a day.

I get it, the cordless is really practical for a quick swoosh round, but having just done downstairs in seconds, plug in hoover (both Dysons) pulls like a train and doesn’t get clogged with stuffing from a myriad of dog toys having been eviscerated! 🐶🦆🐵-favourite toys.

Anyone else??

Oooooh no. I haven’t used my corded Dyson in years. I’m all about my hand held Dyson and robot hoover and mop for the kitchen. What hand held do you have…. Maybe you need a better one?

Justleaveitblankthen · 19/10/2024 21:22

Don't want to be pedantic but a Hoover can't be a Dyson 😁
I love my Henry and when one dies, I replace him with another ❤️

mbosnz · 19/10/2024 21:24

You've just given me traumatic flashbacks to using my mother's cordless model, when I couldn't use my own personal and extensive stock of very bad language. . .

LittleGreenDragons · 19/10/2024 21:31

I find cordless are only good at floofing up the carpet so it looks hoovered. If you actually want it clean then only a corded will do. Although saying that, my Hoover Pets cordless is way better than either the horrendously expensive dyson or shark models, and it was less than £100.

Pigeonqueen · 19/10/2024 21:38

I loved a corded Henry. I’ve tried others and always go back to him. 😁

vipersnest1 · 19/10/2024 21:51

My Dyson is definitely more powerful than the cordless one.

Stressybetty · 19/10/2024 21:54

Our stick Dyson, think it was the DC10 used to clog within seconds and start whinging about the filter. Now have a corded karcher WD6 pro, fantastically powerful.

Hotafternoon · 19/10/2024 22:21

I bought a Sebo after becoming fed up with cordless not hoovering the carpets properly.

I liked it so much I bought another one for upstairs.

Worth every penny.

Elderberrier · 19/10/2024 22:23

Henry all the way for me. Well Hettie actually, but same same.

StrawberrySquash · 19/10/2024 22:27

Ha. My cordless just gave out after I'd started on a proper clean of all the corners of the hallway. But realistically I don't use a corded enough to justify the space.

My DH bought a cordless Dyson a couple of years ago. I hate it. First sight of dust, it coughs feebly and refuses to go on. Before we got 'ducking fyson' (as it is known), my DM loaned her 20yo Sebo to me - nothing was too much trouble. Marvellous.

AgathaX · 19/10/2024 22:40

Corded for a proper clean every time. Our cordless is ok but really not in the same league as the corded .

ForGreyKoala · 19/10/2024 22:44

I love my corded Hoovers, and when my old one needed replacing last year I got another one. I've tried cordless cleaners, and no, not a fan. Mine is also a bagged one and I much prefer that to bagless.

I did a bit of cleaning at my last workplace and the corded vacuum cleaner made a much better job than the Dyson cordless.

I feel this way about James, he's not died yet.

No idea, it stays in the utility room except for minor things eg stairs. I’m sick of taking off the head to untangle the hair. It won’t pick up floof from dog toys and tends to spit it out then if by a miracle it does pick it up, it then clogs the weirdly angled intake hole. Drives me nuts!

The ideal combination is a good cordless for daily quick whizz round and a corded for a thorough clean. I use a robot cleaner upstairs, which basically makes it look tidy, but doesn't deep clean, a bosch athlet for a quick clean downstairs or before mopping hard floors, and a vax air stretch a couple of times a week that sucks ingrained dirt from carpets and nooks and crannies. Even on clean looking carpet the vax will still get plenty in its canister.

I got rid of mine 10 years ago as didn't have space in flat and got a stuck one

Hated it

Have just got myself a second hand hetty off eBay for £40! Lovely! 😻

Needanadultgapyear · 20/10/2024 09:20

I used to feel like this and then I got my cordless Shark. I use it 2 to 3 times a week in our air BnB and I am constantly astounded by how much it picks up when people have only been there 16 hours!
My cleaner in the main house used it as her Henry had broken the other week and told me how fabulous she thought was, but was she does multiple houses the two batteries would last her all day.

ObelixtheGaul · 20/10/2024 09:20

I think this thread might have saved me money, thank you. I've been tempted by cordless, but will stick with my corded.

LadyChilli · 20/10/2024 09:29

I've still got my original Dyson DC01 and it's going strong after goodness knows how long - approaching 20 years I think. I have a cordless which is great for getting dust and small crumbs off the wooden and tiled floors, but it's not a patch on the corded one for cleaning carpets.

Danceswithweasels · 20/10/2024 09:39

Yes! I got my head turned by the cordless, bagless lot. After being disappointed by their lack of stamina and suction skills I welcomed a Miele Into my under stair cupboard. I love it's can do attitude, it doesn't get blocked, all the attachments click on and off with ease and store in it's little boot and the cord reaches the whole house from the hall. First clean I completely filled a bag which showed how fecking useless the cordless was.

arinya · 20/10/2024 09:41

Yes also had my head turned by cordless but don’t think they do as good a job on carpet. Have a Sebo now, built like a tank but so much better than the Shark.

Icequeen01 · 20/10/2024 09:47

We have just bought a Shark plug in hoover as my Dyson cordless conks out after 5 minutes. We replaced the battery on it last year and I'm n

Icequeen01 · 20/10/2024 09:51

Sorry posted too soon!
We replaced the battery on the Dyson last year and I'm not going to replace it again. We have a lovely cleaner who has been with us for about 12 years who begged for a Shark corded. We gave in but my god is it a monster. Soooo heavy. No idea how she manages to get it upstairs. Had to get DH to hoover upstairs yesterday as I just couldn't carry it. I hate it with a vengeance!

Have just got a corded shark which looks like a cordless and does all this
