To list the reasons I love my plug in hoover and not the cordless?!

It doesn’t conk out after 5 minutes of hard work (ok, 10, but the stairs alone are lengthy given the two dogs/my hair moulting, I start praying at about 8 minutes 🤣)

It doesn’t sound like a plane taking off and cause my DH’s tinnitus to start up.

It doesn’t refuse to pick up a micro particle of dust-god forbid it be more than 3 cm away, no chance!

The head doesn’t stop turning due to dog and my hair getting caught up in the spindle.

It doesn’t do the stop/start thing then conk out because the filter needs taking out and smacking against a hard surface to shake out the dust.

It doesn’t faint or sulk at being used more than once a day.

I get it, the cordless is really practical for a quick swoosh round, but having just done downstairs in seconds, plug in hoover (both Dysons) pulls like a train and doesn’t get clogged with stuffing from a myriad of dog toys having been eviscerated! 🐶🦆🐵-favourite toys.

Anyone else??

I'm with you OP. My cordless Hoover was a total waste of time and energy. Just kept the handheld bit for doing the car now and then and bought a corded Shark which is brilliant.

Mabelface · 20/10/2024 10:07

Have a corded shark for proper cleaning, and a cheapy cordless one from Lidl for quick whip around in between. Also use the latter for dusting cobwebs.

SisterMaryLuke · 20/10/2024 12:31

Well I love my cordless Dyson. I do have to give the filter a quick brush after each use, otherwise it tells me it is blocked, but it only takes 30 seconds. I still have my very old corded Dyson which does indeed pick up hair better, but you can't beat the convenience of the cordless IMO. I also find that the other members of the household are more inclined to pick up the cordless.

Have just got a corded shark which looks like a cordless and does all this

Yes, my upright does all of this too, but by the time I've lugged it out of its cupboard and changed sockets, the robovac will be halfway done and the cordless whips round, so for convenience a cordless is better imo.

JustAnonymous · 20/10/2024 16:27

I've had numerous Dysons (used to work for them), plus a Shark cordless (anti hair wrap - biggest lie ever!!) and finally, in frustration, ordered a big, heavy, corded, bagged upright last year on Black Friday and it's the best thing I ever did! Carpet is actually clean, it doesn't protest every 2ft about hair and doesn't run out of power halfway through doing the house. I wouldn't go back now.

ManchesterLu · 20/10/2024 16:30

If you don't like your cordless vacuum... you need a better one.

PuppyMonkey · 20/10/2024 16:39

Well each to their own and all that, but I can assure you my Dyson V11 cordless is by far the best, easiest, most powerful vacuum cleaner I’ve ever had. No way is a corded one ever coming back into my house.Grin

tougholdbirdy · 20/10/2024 16:47

Henry all the way.i've had mine over 20 years and it's still going strong. There's a reason why Henry's are used by tradesmen such as decorators, plasterers, shop fitters etc.

MrsForgetalot · 20/10/2024 16:47

Mine is ancient with replacement parts that don’t match the original colours and is held together with duct tape. She’s heavy and cumbersome I’ve tried to her replace twice but there’s just no comparison. The cordless one actually spits out dirt on the floor sometimes.

So what’s a good one. I got a Dyson, think it was the v8 at the time when that was the top of the range dyson and it was shit. Mainly for human hair getting clogged up in the brush every time I used it and stopping it working until I took it to bits and used a knife to cut the hair out. Sick of it and it remains unused under the stairs.

Murfmeister · 20/10/2024 16:57

Funnily enough I have just bought a corded one today in a fit of pique as my bastard Dyson stick gave up after about 2 minutes last night.
The corded it harder work and dragging it around annoys me, but it picks up a tonne of crap and doesn't tantrum after a few minutes.

The head roller thing looks the same as the v8 animal I have (which is meant to be anti hair wrap) so i don’t trust that it won’t be the same. 🤷‍♀️

PuppyMonkey · 20/10/2024 17:09

No - it is definitely not the same. Believe. Grin

reddit Reviews say otherwise 😁. www.reddit.com/r/VacuumCleaners/comments/jrnath/dyson_v11_long_hair_issues/ www.reddit.com/r/VacuumCleaners/comments/jrnath/dyson_v11_long_hair_issues/]]]]
one bitten twice shy with Dyson cordless for me I’m afraid. I like my shark and my sebo corded ones better.

PuppyMonkey · 20/10/2024 17:33

Here is a pic of my Dyson’s head today. I bought it at the beginning of June and have never once had to cut the hair out like I did my old v8.

(I have a golden retriever).

PickAChew · 20/10/2024 17:56

I'd never pay Mr Dyson another penny of my Money, ever. Miele downstairs and ancient Sebo upstairs. Have an old Dyson handheld and it's neither more effective nor easier to use than a dustpan and brush.

Didimum · 20/10/2024 18:14

We’ve had several big brand cordless – Dyson, Vax etc. They’ve all been awful. Our corded Shark is brilliant.

DanielaDressen · 20/10/2024 18:27

@PuppyMonkey hsve you got long hair? It was never dog or cat hair which clogged my dyson up but both me and Dd have very long hair and it was ours!

sangriaandsunshine · 20/10/2024 19:05

I can't believe no one has mentioned the satisfying whoosh when you unplug the corded vacuum and press the button for the cord to wind itself up again. It's magic

We had the latest Dysons at work. They weren't half as good as the old corded vacuum.

Sorry posted too soon!
We replaced the battery on the Dyson last year and I'm not going to replace it again. We have a lovely cleaner who has been with us for about 12 years who begged for a Shark corded. We gave in but my god is it a monster. Soooo heavy. No idea how she manages to get it upstairs. Had to get DH to hoover upstairs yesterday as I just couldn't carry it. I hate it with a vengeance!

If you go on the Argos website and search for corded shark it shows 11 vacuums with the weight ranges of 0.39kg to 8+kg. I suspect you bought the 8+kg one. I bought mid-range and it's not heavy at all (and it's the best vacuum I've bought in the past 20 years).

I loved a corded Henry. I’ve tried others and always go back to him. 😁

@Pigeonqueen Have you tried the cordless ones though? I would never, ever, trade in my corded Hetty (then Henry) but now I have a cordless Hetty, the corded one is a no-no - the suction is appalling in comparison to the cordless one!
