Kylian Mbappe accused of rape - AIBU to be a bit shocked

Mbappe has been accused of raping a woman in a hotel in Sweden.

In Sweden they are confirming it is definitely him and they've reported on it because they feel it's in the public interest. The woman went to get medical attention and reported the incident straight after. AIBU to be a bit shocked if true? I know everyone will say what do you expect and don't look up to footballers etc, but I'm a woman who enjoys watching football and it's so disheartening how many footballers end up assaulting women. I thought Mbappe was maybe one of the good ones. Hope it's not true, but if it is, that there will be justice for the victim. Apparently Sweden has some of the best laws regarding rape on the planet, so that is encouraging at least.

Kylian Mbappé reacts with fury at Swedish reports of rape claim

Swedish prosecutors say a rape investigation had been opened in Stockholm without mentioning Kylian Mbappé, following media reports that the France captain and Real Madrid star was the suspect

It never surprises me the lengths other women go to automatically defend men and accuse other women of making false rape claims.

Quite sad really. All it does is make it harder and harder for women to speak out because they are dismissed at the first complaint "because he's one of the good guys and would never do that"

EasyComfortDishes · 16/10/2024 12:12

Kylian Mbaope is a young gorgeous rich talented footballer and still rapes (allegedly). this man could sleep with four different women every night. What makes them rape so much?

DalRiata · 16/10/2024 12:15

RoachFish · 16/10/2024 10:58

The whole visit was really odd actually. He came to Stockholm for a night went to a nightclub then flew back the next day. There was no official reason for him to come to Stockholm as far as the press is aware. Suddenly he was just papped leaving a club, the next morning the police are at his hotel checking his room.

it's true though that the rape laws in Sweden are excellent although the sentences are too short. A man was just sentenced for rape against children after having coerced them to show their bodies over the internet, so he was never physically near the children but it was still considered rape. I don't know if that's the same in the UK but I was surprised that it was considered rape.

He'd probably get a three month suspended sentence for that in the UK, and be put on the register of course.

PortiasBiscuit · 16/10/2024 12:16

Last time I checked being accused wasn’t the same as being guilty. Just saying.

Referring to women as "females" is usually a telltale sign that someone is a raging misogynist especially when they refer to men as men rather than "males". Why do you feel the need to dehumanise women?

As for "crying rape", the number of false rape allegations made is tiny.

Eh?

DalRiata · 16/10/2024 12:17

Sad to see people disbelieving the woman. I would always automatically believe the woman because the incidences of women lying about rape are far, far lower than the incidences of women being raped. It's always a possibility they are lying but it's much more likely that she is not.

Misogyny. That's why so many footballers also cheat on their spouses. They are emotionally unintelligent. Uneducated young men with lots of money are rarely very nice.

Can’t not think of Ferengi…

Because they can.

Wasn't the figure around 78% of men said they would rape if they could get away with it?

Hateam · 16/10/2024 12:20

itwasnevermine · 16/10/2024 10:37

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of elite sportsmen who have never raped someone.

You are of course right but that doesn't fit the narrative that many are keen to push.

TheSpottedZebra · 16/10/2024 12:21

PinkStork · 16/10/2024 12:07

This was my first thought when I read your post too OP

Why though? Apart from being a ridiculously paid footballer and leaving PSG, what has he done that a few posters are alluding to?

(Separate to the rape accusation, I mean.)

Buffypaws · 16/10/2024 12:23

Mbappe who, when asked if he might take a train instead of a private jet to protect the environment, fell about laughing, is accused of rape?

Why should he worry about such peasantly concerns as climate change and consent? He must have all the PJs and all the women. He is after all a very good footballer with much money.

EasyComfortDishes · 16/10/2024 12:23

I know they can, but why do they? this is the bit I just don’t get. I love playing my musical instrument, luckily I have access to a range of instruments I can use. If I didn’t maybe I’d be driven to commit a crime and steal one, but I don’t have to.
This is like my having a whole orchestra of instruments and nicking one anyway.
Sorry for the dehumanising analogy. But it baffles me.

I think the fact that they can get so much sex so easily convinces them that they are wanted by all women.

It simply doesn't occur to these men that an attractive young women wouldn't want to have sex with them.

EasyComfortDishes · 16/10/2024 12:25

I mean in his case if would be probably be actively easier and less stressful to have consensual sex with someone.

Yes, but a lot of men get off on degrading and abusing women. Then consensual sex is a lot less exciting.

ItsTheGAGGGGGGGGG · 16/10/2024 12:28

You don’t know this person at all. Why would you be shocked?

I’d be shocked if a friend of mine, particularly a close friend, was accused of rape. Someone I’ve spent my time with and thought I knew well. Why would I be shocked that a random stranger has been accused of something when I have no clue about how they conduct themselves? Thinking a stranger is one of the good ones is weird

Because a woman has to prove a man raped her, the victim of theft doesn't have to prove you've stolen their trombone.

It's easier to get away with rape because of the trauma and onus on women to prove it

The post I was responding to is quoted in my post. Which bit are you "eh" at?

ilovesooty · 16/10/2024 12:43

PandoraSox · 16/10/2024 10:59

Why @ilovesooty? I don't know much about him, so curious.

He's not a team player and expects to be bigger than the club everywhere he's played. At PSG he expected to be allowed to have influence over transfers and managerial policy. He's apparently not a positive influence in the dressing room. He has now told France he only wants to play in their most important matches as he doesn't want to risk injury which might prevent him from winning the Ballon D'or.

Ellerby83 · 16/10/2024 12:45

Why would you assume he is one of the good ones? You don't know him.

In the Euros this year he taunted an opposition player who had scored an own goal. I've never seen a player do that so blatantly in a match before. So from that snippet of his character I'd say not a pleasant man.

Yup.

You only have to look at campaigns such as We Can't Consent To This to see that there has been a worrying normalisation of violent sex.

https://wecantconsenttothis.uk/aboutus

A friend of mine is recently divorced and has started doing OLD. She is shocked at the amount of men openly expecting things like choking, anal, degredation, submissiveness, etc as standard.

Rape is about power as much as sex.

Am not surprised but then I am highly cynical and don't believe we really know anyone (public eye or not).

Exactly. He's an immature bully. I don't know why people have the perception of him being a nice guy. I don't see it at all. He comes across and hugely unpleasant.
