CF parked on my driveway!

SEMPA1234567 · 15/10/2024 14:05

CF has now been parked on my driveway for at least 3 hours! Husband home soon and won’t be able to park!

My question is what can you actually practically do about this, apart from giving them an earful if you spot them returning to their car!! 😂

A quick google says

  1. the police won’t do anything (they might if it’s stoping you getting off your drive but not if they’re preventing you accessing your drive)
  2. My areas police website says try contacting the council . The councils website clearly states they will not remove vehicles or issue parking charge notices for private drives

Also you are not allowed to block them in as this is an offence to stop them leaving and obviously you can not damage their car as this would be criminal damage.

Assuming you don’t want to break the law 😂 what are you meant to legally do if someone parks on your drive??

Has anyone successfully got any type of justice against a CF?!? Or can I now just go around being a CF never paying for parking and just using other peoples drives?!?

And breathe...

Did you think I was being literal when I said "sit there"?

Like, literally sitting? There?

Goodness me...

Well you asked the question and you worded it like that so what was it meant to mean? I infer you think people should do something, but what can they do if they don't see the CF arrive, and have no idea who they are or where they went?

They wont care that theyve inconvenienced you. If they were the type to care, they wouldn't have parked there in the first place.

Angel fan!

Cheeky fucker! Haha, sorry, didn't get it

I used to live in a complex of flats, with a few allocated spots, but mostly free for all. You had a code to open the barrier, but people would wait, then sit right behind and gun it in after you.

Here's a picture of the car of one who did that to me. He then walked out of the flats and fucked off. See of you can guess which car it is.

Ugh, just the way they've parked gives me the screaming abdabs - so feckin' arrogant! 😡I bet those flats have loads of CCTV (like so many places do these days) but if they didn't and I lived there I'd be out there opening the valves on all four tyres - and then going back a while later to close them again. 😉😂

It may be that one of your neighbours uses an app like JustPark and they have got the wrong space. Is the possible? I would get DH to block them in with a note and have strong words when they return.

Yes this nearly happened to us and the people parking got the wrong house number

AngelicKaty · 15/10/2024 21:26

JandLandG · 15/10/2024 21:07

Sorry? What?

What's this pile of shit got to do with the price of fish?

Your mate lived near a huge attraction and people were on some kind of internet scam.

It's nothing like what we're discussing, is it?

Rule 243 of the Highway Code sets out where people can and cannot park. It says drivers should not leave their car in front of an entrance to a property, which means blocking someone's driveway would break this rule.

Again - what the fuck has that got to do with what we're talking about?

I've spoken about this before - I'm getting old now, but MN used to have a fairly high standard of debate and conversation. Too many Daily Mail and Daily Express readers in here now.

Says the person who has posted, ad nauseam, that this scenario just doesn't happen and has demanded "proof" no less. Why don't you go and find a discussion thread more to your taste.

Shinyandnew1 · 15/10/2024 21:27

What happened, are they still there?

Left us all hanging OP! Desperate for an update.

Ellsternell · 15/10/2024 21:31

We had this once as we used to live opposite a primary school. Parked on my drive on sports day! I parked my own car at the bottom of the drive (so they couldn’t move) and went and had a nice long bath. They were really embarassed when they had to wait outside my house to get off the drive!

There's a car worth thousands of pound sat on their private property and you're seriously asking "what can people do"?

What do you think people could do in that scenario?

Just "sit there" figuratively and/or metaphorically and put up with it? Or...maybe do something?

I wouldn't recommend consulting the Highway Code though.

Totally different, you see.

Not on The Highway, you see.

My "mate"? What mate? This hasn't happened to me or anyone I know. You're getting me confused with another poster. Maybe read it slowly this time......

HereForTheFreeLunch · 15/10/2024 21:38

Awww where's OP?
Don't tell me it was her mum and she had forgotten she was coming to visit! 😩
After such a good diagram and all!

No, you're the one saying people should do something in this situation, so please enlighten us with your great wisdom.

BiscuitlyBoyle · 15/10/2024 21:16

If someone comes home to find some random car sat on their drive with the owners no where in site then how are they at fault, how is that letting them violate their property?

Doing nothing is exactly "letting them violate their property."

I wouldn't let anyone get away with that on my property.

I'm actually astonished that people would just let people get away with this with no consequences.

TBH, as I've mentioned, I'm astonished this situation happens at all. I still can't believe it does.

And I'm talking about the OP's situation, not some huge visitor attraction over the road, or some internet scam, or some track half a mile from a house.

Perhaps it happens bc people have been letting people get away with it.

Erm....dunno...can't think of anything either.

Lob a copy of the Highway Code at the car?

Write to The Daily Mail letters page?

Give up.

Maybe sell the house, buy one outside a huge visitor attraction and start an internet scam.

Use the money from that to buy all the cars in the world, thereby preventing people from parking on the drive of the house where you no longer live.

Brilliant, Katy - together we've come up with a foolproof plan!!!

katystar · 15/10/2024 21:43

Someone parked on our drive, DH wanted to block them but for some reason I felt really uneasy about this….my friend who lives over the road asked me over for a glass of wine as she know I had a weird feeling I couldn’t shake. The person parked on my drive turned up drunk reversed off my drive into my friends car parked infront of her house then attacked my DH, her DH and tried to kick my door down took the police over an hour to attend and all our kids have been traumatised by the whole thing so unfortunately my vote is to unfortunately leave it but find a way to block it with gate bollards or anything.

No, you've come up with a ludicrous "plan" and have resorted to sarcasm for no good reason other than you're embarrassed because you're throwing insults around and have mistaken me for another poster. But I get it now, you're one of those people who could have an argument in an empty room. Go and lie down and take the weight off your brain.

God, yes, that's awful and a sober reminder that as well as being a CF, the miscreant driver could also be unhinged. Clearly you've never forgotten it, but I hope you're all OK now. 😊

fruitbrewhaha · 15/10/2024 21:59

What happened OP? Have you been very busy cooking dinner and getting kids to sleep or have you gone rogue and smashed the CF car up and now gone to ground? Do we need to let you know when’s it’s safe to come out of hiding?

EarthSight · 15/10/2024 21:59

Love the fact you've provided a diagram just so that all the readers on here can whip out their monocles to inspect it 🧐😂
