CF parked on my driveway!

SEMPA1234567 · 15/10/2024 14:05

CF has now been parked on my driveway for at least 3 hours! Husband home soon and won’t be able to park!

My question is what can you actually practically do about this, apart from giving them an earful if you spot them returning to their car!! 😂

A quick google says

  1. the police won’t do anything (they might if it’s stoping you getting off your drive but not if they’re preventing you accessing your drive)
  2. My areas police website says try contacting the council . The councils website clearly states they will not remove vehicles or issue parking charge notices for private drives

Also you are not allowed to block them in as this is an offence to stop them leaving and obviously you can not damage their car as this would be criminal damage.

Assuming you don’t want to break the law 😂 what are you meant to legally do if someone parks on your drive??

Has anyone successfully got any type of justice against a CF?!? Or can I now just go around being a CF never paying for parking and just using other peoples drives?!?

😂
even some carparks have notices like this.
"Cars are parked at owner's risk"
I'm shocked that the police can't/won't help. It's trespassing on private property.

Trespass is a civil offence. Police won’t get involved.

New to Mum’s net. Can someone tell me what the acronym CF means. I tried to look it up myself but couldn’t find anything that would fit with the subject.

Ebeneser · 15/10/2024 19:01

When this happened to me I just blocked them in. They had to come grovelling to me to move. They were very apologetic to be fair, it was a mix up and they they should have parked 2 drives up.

MoneyAndPercentages · 15/10/2024 19:02

@MummyMags3 Cheeky Fucker! 😂

Bird crap amungo.

Yes , it's bugger to get off !

I was (legally and out of the way , not in anyones drive) parked under trees at my parents house . My car looked like Mr Blobby after 24 hours !''

Yeah does sound like your local garage was being nice there. I can't imagine most garages agreeing to keep a random vehicle on site.

Or indeed, breaking the law by towing a car without any legal authority. It's not like America, you can't just get a car towed. It's trespass and a civil matter, the Police have no means to intervene and will tell you that they can do nothing.

This has happened to me more than once. I block them in. The first time it happened the driver said he’d parked on my drive because it would have cost him £10 to park in the nearby car park and I said I would move my car to let him out if he gave me £10 to donate to charity - which he ended up doing after some aggro.

The second time it happened I told the guy that he had inconvenienced me for 3 hours because I couldn’t park on my drive so he could come back in 3 hours time and I’d move my car then 😂. Which he sheepishly did.

Basically I’ve decided that you have to be outrageous and get yourself a reputation as the mad old bag at number 5 otherwise people will take the mickey and keep doing it. I’m haven’t had a problem with this for years now!

Yes this! Love the charging idea - I might try that next time!

muddyford · 15/10/2024 14:11

Get someone else to block them in by parking across the entrance? Then you can say, "Sorry mate, someone just parked and left. There's a lot of it about." If you can have a glass of something alcoholic in your hand when you answer the door, even better.

This

Serencwtch · 15/10/2024 19:11

Block them in & leave a note. That's not an offence you aren't detaining them.

When they ring to ask you to move then apologize that you've had a glass of wine but will be moving it at 7 am (or whenever DH leaves for work)

MargaretThursday · 15/10/2024 19:11

Block him in, then when he knocks on your door act all outraged that there's two cars you don't know parked on your drive, and tell him to knock round the neighbours and ask if it's them. Tell him to start with the neighbour who's most likely to have done it - the one who's the most grumpy.

Ideally warn your neighbours first, and get them to keep pointing him further and further away.

I'd park across the end of my drive. It's not blocking them in if you leave a note on the windscreen letting them know where you are. They can come and knock when they want to leave.

I've done this before and it hasn't happened again since.
I have a local reputation for not suffering fools gladly 😄

AttachmentFTW · 15/10/2024 19:20

@SEMPA1234567 did the cheeky fucker come back? What happened?

Insidiously wicked. I love it.

What's CF?

I get pissed off with abbreviations being used. It's lazy

AndThereSheGoes · 15/10/2024 19:31

Drfosters · 15/10/2024 15:55

once the car is on your property it is a civil matter and you are responsible for any damage to it whilst it is on your property.

what do you expect people to do when it happens?

I just did a quick google and found loads of stories of people doing it

How does that work though? Every car park I see has " park at your own risk" signs on them.
No one expects homeowners to look after anything else of theirs, when they pop round for a coffee or something.

How rude of the OP to physically force you to open and read the thread with an abbreviation you don't like or understand.

Could a well fitted potato find it's way up their exhaust pipe...?
They wouldn't know until they were down the road and it went bang, followed by the pleasant odour of jacket spud.

Ha ha, you've obviously never tried that, they come out with a bang like a cannon. When I was at school, we had a shitty weasel of a deputy head, even the teachers obviously hated him and some lads tried that. There was a small and subsequently disappointed crowd gathered to watch the fun.

No, you need loads of potatoes, gravel and mud and a broomstick, to shove it all up there. Not that I'm advocating that, of course!

Cheeky Fucker(s) - now you know why it's abbreviated! 😂

PorridgeEater · 15/10/2024 19:43

I was going to suggest a lockable fold-down bollard to stop this happening in future - not sure if this would work, because a driveway as I imagined it was not as in your diagram (which to me looks more like a parking space in front of the house).
Agree it's annoying - hope soon resolved.

After I went full fishwife at them it never happened again.

Ha hah! From Hyacinth Bouquet to Full Fishwife in 0.3 Seconds!!

Winter41 · 15/10/2024 19:48

You can't damage their car obviously, but it would just be unfortunate if there were a couple of nails that had been dropped on your driveway near to their tyres.

😂😂😂No 5! 👏

Someone's husband did it - though IIRC when he opened the door, it wasn't the CF outside, it was the police, who took it in their stride.😂
