For context: I'm 36, mum of three (youngest is 2.5), work four days a week.

Im also someone who needs a lot of sleep.

So... introductions over. I'm in bed for 8/8.30 and asleep 8.30-9 every night. I then get up at 5.30/6 with my toddler.

Aibu to ask your age and when you go to sleep?

My ideal bedtime would be more like 11 but my 1yo just doesn’t sleep well at all so if I don’t go to bed early I just can’t function

Wishihadanalgorithm · 13/10/2024 21:43

I am 51. Go to bed anytime between 10..00pm and 11.30pm. Usually read a little then up between 6.00am and 6.15am.

nOasistickets · 13/10/2024 21:43

39, bed at about 12.30/1am - sometimes later. Up at 7am. 2 kids.

okydokethen · 13/10/2024 21:44

10.30-11 fall asleep pretty easily
Alarm for 6.15am, often lay in bed longer tired.

CalliopePlantain · 13/10/2024 21:44
  1. In bed at 9. Asleep anytime between 10-1am
workingmumguilt · 13/10/2024 21:45

39 with two primary school aged kids. I go to bed 9-9.30 and asleep by 10. Up at 6.

DH is a night owl. He’s often up until midnight or 1am. But then he struggles to get up to help with school mornings. He does do stuff to help around the house/life admin when I’ve gone to bed. And when we had babies he did the last bottle feed so I got a good chunk of sleep.

sometimes we get frustrated with each others body clocks but other times it can help.

Lolaandbehold · 13/10/2024 21:47

Of a weeknight I aim to be in bed at 10, light off 10.30 (rare), asleep by 11, up at 7.

Do you all go to bed so early because your life is empty and the evenings a nothing?

never heard of such early sleepers. 8pm? That’s dinner time

It depends on what time the person has to be up the next morning for work and their age.
For example, my husband is 60 and he has to be up at 04.00 for work, so he goes to bed at around 20.15 on a week night. He has a read for 30 mins or so then goes to sleep.
His life is far from empty.

A lot of the very early to bed posters aren't getting up that early though. It isn't usual to need the amount of sleep some of them are getting.

34, bed by 10:30, up at 6:30

Imfreetofeelgood · 13/10/2024 21:52

55, retired this year, I have a young teen.
Between 10 and 10.30 - same time as him, but before DP.
I'm up between 7 and 7.30, or 6 - 6.30 if swimming.
I actually wake about 4,and read, MN, and if I'm lucky, dose on and off.

I’m late 40’s, children are grown up and moved out and I go to bed about 12:45am and I’m asleep by 1am. I get up at different times each day as my work start times are different each day. The earliest I have to be up for work is 7:30am and the latest I can get up is 8:45am. On days when I don’t work I sleep from 1am until about 10am that seems to be my natural sleep pattern.

Jaehee · 13/10/2024 21:52

34, bed around 00:30, read for half an hour, asleep around 1:15. Wake naturally at 7:30. Trying to go to bed earlier but I don't think I'm wired that way.

This is insane, do the majority of people go to bed really early? Gosh I need to make changes!

I'm 39, 3 kids. Bed 11.30, up 5.30/6. I thought 6 hours was normal for busy mums!

Edited

Same! Didn’t realise so many people go to bed so early.

Normally in bed anytime between 12.30-2am. Sometimes ADHD kicks in and I’m in bed after 3-4am. Usually wake up 7-7.30 am.

As long as I get 5 hours of sleep I feel fine. Anything less and I feel tired and grumpy the next day. If I sleep for more than 7 hours I weirdly feel tired when I wake up. 6-7 hours is the sweet spot.

My husband is like that. If he goes to bed before midnight he wakes up at 2 or 3 am and struggles to get back to sleep.

PrettyFox · 13/10/2024 21:55

39, usually go to bed between 11 and midnight. Wake up at 7am.

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 13/10/2024 21:56

I'm 48:

Go up to bed at 10:45, in bed by 11pm
Read and lights off by 11:30
Up at 6am (after waking at 4am - why is it always 4am???)

Begonias · 13/10/2024 21:57

47, in bed for 8.30/9.00.sleep 10-10.30 and up at 6

NannyGythaOgg · 13/10/2024 22:01

70 (in January).

Bed, generally between 11pm and midnight. Stay up all night until around 6 am if (adult) kids stay over.
Up - anytime between 9am and midday, depending on how well I've slept, and if I can go back to sleep.

Retired and love living alone, doing what I want when I want and sleeping (when I can) when I want.

Out until around 3 am when on holiday (usually in Turkey, so it is only 1am in UK)

Rockfordpeach · 13/10/2024 22:02

41 go up at 10pm, asleep by 11. Up between 6.30 and 7.30. If I was single, I'd go to bed for 9 but I don't like falling asleep and then being disturbed and hour later by DP so I go the same time as him

HR313 · 13/10/2024 22:03

Around 11-11.30pm. My youngest whose 3 and strong willed won’t go to bed until gone 10pm most nights even though bed time starts at 8pm. I’ve given up trying to put her to bed any earlier. Once she’s asleep I doom scroll in bed until I go to sleep around 11pm ish. During the week I’ll get up at 7.15am but today managed to get a lay in until 8.30am as kids were clearly shattered.

NeedSleepNow · 13/10/2024 22:03

41, single Mum to 3 kids aged 7-14. Working full time. I would love to be in bed for 9.30/10 each night but unfortunately it never happens and I'm usually catching up with the housework until 11ish. As soon as my head hits the pillow I'm sound asleep, the alarm goes off at 6am the next morning.

Canonlythinkofthisone · 13/10/2024 22:03
  1. Anything between 10pm and 2am. Up at 5.30 7 days a week. Normally have dinner at 9pm ish

15 years working in hospitality means I can mostly survive on very little food and very little sleep, until I crash. They're the 10pm nights 🤣

MrsLBrown · 13/10/2024 22:04

I'm shocked at how early some posters go to bed.

66 and go to bed around 11pm. Sometimes 10.30

OhMehGoddess · 13/10/2024 22:04

Mid early 40's, usually have 1-2 pees a night. Can wake more as have the cat next to me and when our 8y come saundering through. In bed between 1045-1130pm weekdays and alarm goes at 0605am for exercise.
