For context: I'm 36, mum of three (youngest is 2.5), work four days a week.

Im also someone who needs a lot of sleep.

So... introductions over. I'm in bed for 8/8.30 and asleep 8.30-9 every night. I then get up at 5.30/6 with my toddler.

Aibu to ask your age and when you go to sleep?

36yrs old mum of a 6 month old (first child)
Still on maternity leave.
I'm in bed by 10 the latest every night, earlier if baby goes down easier.

I wake up anywhere between 4 and 8.. I struggle to get back to sleep if she wakes for a night feed (usually 4 am onwards if it happens) x

Carsarelife · 13/10/2024 21:15

51, an early night for me is before 11 but much more usual is midnight or later. Alarm at 6.45 most days.

Me too. I'm 54, I'm surprised by the number of people on this thread going to bed pretty early. Even when my DC were tiny I can't remember going to bed much before 11pm.

AnnaKing81 · 13/10/2024 21:18

43, aim to be asleep by 10.30pm.

Days off x2, lye in until 7.30

I'm 65 and DH is 70. We go to bed about 11pm and read phone/youtube/audible books till after midnight. He gets up about 7am and I wake about 8am and listen to audible books for an hour before getting up at 9am.

My sleep since peri hit can be variable but Ive been really prioritising down time and getting as much sleep as possible the last few years.
i head up 9ish most nights.
Potter and tidy my room a bit.
shower
and then bed with lights out by 10 at the latest Sunday to Thursday.
weekends I tend to stay up later but generally 10.30 is about as long as I can last unless it's a proper occasion 😂😂
I wake usually before my alarm goes off at 6.40
Weekends I doze as long as I can but generally am awake by 9 at the latest

housemaus · 13/10/2024 21:20

I'm 34 - usually midnight, ish.

Vettrianofan · 13/10/2024 21:20

In my 40s, around 8/9pm.

CustardySergeant · 13/10/2024 21:20

I'm 70 and go to bed about 2 am.

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 13/10/2024 21:22

Up 6/7am weekdays. 8am on weekends.

Eyesopenwideawake · 13/10/2024 21:23

61 - normally in bed by 10.30, asleep by 11.

Up at 6.30 (but I do siesta for 1.5hrs most afternoons).

Annettecurtaintwitcher · 13/10/2024 21:24

45, go to bed at 11 and read for half an hour, up at 6.30/7. I had no idea people went to bed so early! How is this even possible? My six year old doesn’t go to bed until at least nine.

Alittlebitwary · 13/10/2024 21:24

37, with 2 kids age 5 and under. I work 4 days a week and usually go to bed around 10 ish and asleep by 11, up about 6.30am. some nights I scroll til much later. I'm ALWAYS tired. But...

I'd love to go to bed at 8.30/9 but my kids go down about 7.30, so then once I've had tea, when do I do the washing / make my lunch for work / have a shower / do the bags / do life admin / have any down time?? Honestly my mornings are always a rush and I get a half hour lunch break so genuinely... How are people getting to bed so early??

tinymoon · 13/10/2024 21:24

In my 40s, two young kids. 9pm on a weekday, about 10.30 at the weekend unless I’m really tired. 11pm occasionally, but that feels really late.
I am surprised by the 8pm/8.30pm ones! I thought I was early.

Beezknees · 13/10/2024 21:25

I am 34, always asleep before 11pm. Get up between 6.30-7.

DoubleYolker · 13/10/2024 21:26

I’m fascinated by these answers. I had no idea people went to bed so early. I think I’ve always been a night owl.

I’m 49, kids 14 & 11. Bed usually around 11-11:30, usually asleep by midnight, up at 7:30. Sleep later and wake later at weekends.

DelphiniumBlue · 13/10/2024 21:28

I’m mid sixties, still working, so I get up at 6:45 on schooldays. I try to be in bed by 11:30 but quite often don’t make that target, although I like to have 8 hours sleep. So I m frequently tired. I also wake up a lot in the night, so it’s sometimes only about 4-5 hours, which isn’t great.

Slothfully · 13/10/2024 21:28

Oblomov24 · 13/10/2024 20:53

This thread is odd. The normal time for most adults should be approx 10pm. 8 hours is the optimum so 11pm - 7am is reasonable.

I myself often go early, pre 9pm, sometimes 8pm if very tired, but I am diabetic and have always needed a lot of sleep. But this is not the norm, and the difference is I know that.

Who are you to dictate what time people should turn in for the night and what is the norm?
