Blackpool pleasure beach

I just visited Blackpool and I Had a nice time going around the beach and activities.

But honestly- Blackpool pleasure beach - what are they thinking! Some of the rides are so old and dangerous, I don't know how they are allowed at all.

It was the first time that I went .

I went on one ride, and it went extremely high. It was like an old fashioned rollrr coaster, but you were sitting on a horse. It's called steeple chase.

. There was the tiniest old fashioned seat belt on the horse, like a car seat belt. Except it was just a horizontal belt. The material of the belt looked old, worn and thin. And it didn't hold you on properly.

You had to grip with your hands onto the handle bars. This ride went extremely high and it was extremely fast and jerky, and i was nearly jerked out of the seat several times. If the ride jerked and you fell out of the seat , you would slip through the seat belt and you would fall a very long way down. I was holding on for dear life. I very nearly came off and fell once.

People were getting off the ride at the end and were crying and looking extremely stressed.

The guy running the ride laughed and said to us "you won't do that ride again in a hurry will you haha". Because he knew it was bad

I saw other rides in the park, where the metal holding the ride up looked completely rusted through.

I don't know how the park is allowed from a health and safety standpoint?

The Big one makes you think you are going to die coming down the biggest drop from the top.

Yeah it's mad! 😆

Magnastorm · 12/10/2024 23:48

Yep. Funny.

20m is roughly 4 doubledecker buses high. Just from watching that youtube pov you can see the ride is nowhere near that high at any point.

Yet you can't seem to find any source showing the height of the ride yourself.

Funny that!

Because you’ve told me it’s very simple to Google so I did and it hasn’t come up. You’ve screenshotted the supposed height but from what website is that from?

UsernameHistoryBook · 12/10/2024 23:50

Oh I haven’t been in years.

Is the Laughing Man still there?
Alice in Wonderland?
The giant holding up the monorail?

Such amazing memories. I loved the Grand National but never went on the steeple chase!

ilovepixie · 12/10/2024 23:50

My mum who hates rides and I went on the steeple chase, she thought it was a gentle ride like the hobby horses! She near had a heart attack when it started!

Rantypanties · 12/10/2024 23:51

And is it 20m from the ground or sea level because as I’ve pointed out the Big One is measured by both

I remember going on that horse ride as a child and I was terrified, I can’t believe my parents put me on the thing and I’m shocked to hear it’s still there! I visited Blackpool two years ago, I hadn’t been since I was a child and couldn’t believe how awful the place was, the lights weren’t even on. I watched a 1985 documentary the other day which featured Blackpool and it looked quite run down even then.

Yeah it's still there and it's still awful!

Sorry to hear you were terrified on it

Your poor mum!

I was the same . I thought it was a gentle ride. Looks are deceiving.

There's a lot of horse themed rides in Blackpool isn't there.

There is the Derby racer, the steeplechase, the Grand National

I was on the Valhalla and that got stuck! A wee man with a torch had to come rescue us! And we got stuck on the Pepsi max too, but they got that going after about 10 mins And the weekend before a boy died on one of the rides. I can't remember which one, but I think it was Space themed and in the dark.

You haven't posted one either. That clearly nonsense screengrab proves nothing. Let's see the url for those references.

It is categorically not more than a few metres off the ground at any point. Anyone with functional eyesight can see that from the videos posted.

Pitch black you say? Sounds a bit dangerous. Should probably shut it down just in case. What if someone were to stub their toe on it?

Apparently I am stupid. 50 inches is the height restriction! (On Steeplechase!) Not the height of the ride!

I am so sorry @Roundthemoon As you were everyone!

!

Wheelbarrowracer · 13/10/2024 00:00

Dh and the dc love the pleasure Beach. Possibly more than alton towers cos you bet to go on more rides. The big one scares the shit out of me, but the dc love it.

Delphiniumandlupins · 13/10/2024 00:00

The older rides feel more exciting than modern rides of the same size and speed because they are rickety.

Roundthemoon · 13/10/2024 00:01

I did enjoy the Valhalla ride. It's very well designed. I can see why it won awards.

Alice in wonderland is still there definitely

I really want to go back now. I remember the narrow steps up to the planes. And the goldmine. And the new ride opening called Avalance. Memories from the 70s and 80s!

EmberAsh · 13/10/2024 00:01

I remember going on Steeplechase 25+ years ago. It is certainly a ride that has no modern braces to secure you and leaves you feeling a thrill (whether good or bad depends on your disposition) but that doesn't mean it's necessarily unsafe.

The other old ride that's still there is the ghost train

🤣🤣🤣 @Magnastorm

Valhalla has since had a major ‘update’ so the boats don’t go down the drop backwards anymore so must be so much safer than before….

Stichintime · 13/10/2024 00:03

People go on these rides for fun, being terrified is part of that. Going on a scary ride, thinking your life is over is where the thrills really come in. H&S is pretty strict in this country.
I found those old travelling fairs where all the rides and amusements are at least a hundred years old more frightening, with the smell of diesel just adding to the near death feeling.
