Abusive cleaner took pics of my home

My lovely self employed cleaner went back to her own country. New cleaner started this week. House is tidy but dirty floor and surfaces, needs a good vacuum/mop/wiping up. We hire 4 hours a week for a deep clean of the downstairs(kitchen dining living room)/hallway and stairs. Standard 3 bed house in London with kitchen extension, takes me 2 hours to do but pay for 4 so the job gets done properly.

New cleaner came and in 4 hours couldn't clean what we asked which is just vacuum/mop and wipe down all surfaces. Had to ask her to clean individual window seals as she didn't and when she left I noticed the living room window seal wasnt cleaned. She broke my glass chopping board and didn't say anything and left chemicals in the oven which I told her not to clean. Last cleaner was able to wipe the skirting boards and didn't leave a spec of dirt in corners, this cleaner left many areas dirty.

I said nothing and thought I won't hire again. The company messaged me why I don't want to hire again and I said I wasn't happy with the clean nothing else.

I then get very abusive messages and pictures of my floor being dirty saying my house is disgusting. Didn't get to respond before I was blocked by the company.

AIBU? I feel completely violated and want to complain some how. She took photos of my home without permission.

Don't even know what to do now and feel uncomfortable using another cleaner. Husband says I'm over reacting :( am I?

FYI I've added a photo of my home before the cleaner came. Floors are clearly dirty but the kitchen is tidy/needs wipe down.

Whilst I personally wouldn't live with a floor like that the rest of the kitchen looks pretty clean so I don't think OP is slacking/living in squalor.
I would invest in a long handled brush & pan set and start sweeping the floor daily (ideally one of the men could get off their backside and do it but I understand that is unlikely!)
A robovac would be amazing if you can throw money at it.
I do think the cleaner is being very unreasonable as I could have that size of house completely spotless in 4 hours and she has sent that photo to shame you into silence about the rubbish job they did!

Ebeneser · 12/10/2024 19:50

Whilst that floor is minging, I don’t understand the outrage. Most of that can be swept up in less than 10 mins. If the cleaner had an issue she should have said it was worse than expected and she needed more time or to charge more.
Why on Earth people feel they have to clean up before the cleaner comes is beyond me. I bet they are the same kind of people that rinse their plates before putting them in the dishwasher.

QuestionableMouse · 12/10/2024 19:50

MSLRT · 12/10/2024 18:53

If your floors were spotless you wouldn’t need a cleaner! What do they expect? That you clean before they come?

As a private housekeeper I'd expect some effort to keep it clean. Picking up the plastic and sweeping between my visits at a minimum!

I guarantee, the second someone says they are struggling to get on top of their housework, the response here is always to get a cleaner. I am recovering from an illness which has left me behind on the housework and I was going to get a cleaner in to help me, but have changed my mind since reading a lot of these replies.

I'm massively struggling to keep on top of cleaning. Turns out I need a clean house before I can get a cleaner.

I'm astonished at all the people on here who live in immaculate houses, with regularly swept and mopped floors. When do you find the time? Or is this just another mumsnet pile on, because someone has honestly admitted to not cleaning before the cleaner visits?

What about that poster who regularly posts photos of her untidy, messy house - she gets sympathy and unmumsnetty hugs.

This poster is heavily pregnant and lives in a male dominated house with siblings and her father, by the sound of it, and culturally, men don't do housework. Give the woman a break FFS.

Yes, I think this is the point. Messy men who leave explosions in the kitchen, she's heavily pregnant - it's tough. Plus remember the cleaner is only there to do the ground floor, so not the whole house.

MissUltraViolet · 12/10/2024 19:52

You live with absolute pigs.

In saying that, i’m no professional cleaner yet I’d have that floor looking so much better in about ten minutes with a broom and some wipes let alone after four hours. Ditch that cleaning company.

Anyone else feel like Monica in that episode of Friends when she rocks up at a girls flat Ross was dating to try clean it?

Very messy floor lol please don't judge 😬. It's a female company owner that has many cleaners under her that she sends out. It wasn't the cleaner messaging me but the female company owner.

That's disgusting, 6 people at home and no one can hover sometimes? Lazy..

Frankensteinslittlefriend · 12/10/2024 19:41

There is a huge ocean of space between imacculate and that floor. But if you feel it’s acceptable then it says a lot about your own standards,

My standards, which you know nothing about are irrelavalent, as I said I'm not here to judge the OP. People are being very rude and judgemental based on onw photo. She's asked about the cleaning company, and regardless of what people think of her home, IMO the cleaning company have acted unprofessional calling her disgusting , even if they thought so, they shouldn't be saying it.

CrazyAndSagittarius · 12/10/2024 19:53

And just to add any cleaning company should have seen way worse than this anyway. My cleaner has told me a few things about stuff she's had to deal with in homes. They should have seen hoarders, horrendous end of tenancy cleans, disabled and elderly who haven't been able to clean for themselves for some time, stuff everywhere so difficult to clean at all etc etc etc. The OPs home looks like just a few weeks build up of ordinary mess.

ahemfem · 12/10/2024 19:53

OP if they see this they'll know it's you and abuse you more!!!

well this company seemed quite horrified by it

She might not be very good at her job, but I'm not sure I'd call he abusive!

AmberAlert86 · 12/10/2024 19:48

Bur the OP said she only asked for downstairs to be cleaned. Bedrooms irrelevant

Sorry mis read the bit about it being for downstairs only. In that case OP 4 hrs is ample time to clean. She just didn't want the job in her regular slot for whatever reason. I've had all sorts of horror stories with cleaners over the years and you just got to chalk this one up to experience and move on & pray the next one is better!. She shouldn't have taken pictures of your personal space though. Raise that.

notquiteruralbliss · 12/10/2024 19:58

Really don't see the problem with OP's expectations. If I outsource cleaning, I expect cleaners to clean. I don't expect to have to clean first.

HamSandwic · 12/10/2024 20:00

Floor just needs sweeping then mopping. No need for the MN outrage. 4 hours of cleaning, I think OP is reasonable.

tealandteal · 12/10/2024 20:00

I think the cleaner was unreasonable however it must be horrid to walk on a floor like that in the times in between the cleaner coming. A robot hoover could help you here. It can run around every day or twice a day with no effort from you.

Mum2jenny · 12/10/2024 20:00

My kitchen floor can be way more minging that the OPs. Crumbs from the bread board always seem to land on the kitchen floor!

diddl · 12/10/2024 20:01

In our culture men don't clean 😬 DH is not middle eastern but there is no way to tell my grown ass siblings/dad to clean, just won't happen. I do have to admit this floor was much messier than usual

Do they also not pick up after themselves?

Clean up what they spill?

Cheeseismyfavourite · 12/10/2024 20:01

OP I highly recommend a robot vacuum cleaner, we use it every day and it’s fab. Our floors would probably look like that if it wasn’t for it

GiddyRobin · 12/10/2024 20:02

Bloody hell, OP. I've got two kids, me and DH, two dogs, several cats, and guinea pigs, live rural and have horses (MUD!), and work FT. My floor has never, ever looked like that. Even when DH is away (we share cleaning 50/50), it might have got a bit dusty but that's...something else.

Your DH needs to pull his finger out. You're blaming culture, but he's not part of it apparently (no excuse anyway), but you both need to get with it. That's filthy! I am far from a neat freak, trust me, but how do you even walk on that floor?! That's minging.

Just because you get a cleaner for a deep clean doesn't mean you can't walk around with a hoover or a brush once a day! It takes seconds! Do you just watch stuff fall to the floor and leave it?! 🤢

Mamabearsmile · 12/10/2024 20:02

Judgemental meower...oh my...

Superhotpoet · 12/10/2024 20:02

Just get the Eufy robovac with the mopper, it’s brilliant. Use a capful of nice smelling floor cleaner, press the button when you come downstairs or last thing at night and it tootles about and keeps everything lovely. I have the mopper version downstairs and a normal Eufy upstairs and it’s astonishing what a difference it makes.

greenday16B · 12/10/2024 20:03

SunQueen24 · 12/10/2024 19:21

I hate this attitude. I pay a cleaner to take a load off of me, not to judge me. Come round and give me a price for the job in hand. Cleaning and tidying are hardly a world apart. If someone is messy charge them for the time it takes to tidy. It’s so petulant to refuse to tidy.

Some people expect both in 2 hours.

SunQueen24 · 12/10/2024 20:05

greenday16B · 12/10/2024 20:03

Some people expect both in 2 hours.

But then that’s on the cleaner to say it’s not realistic. In my job if I go over my estimate I explain why and charge more - if a cleaner cant finish they should do the same. The
