Abusive cleaner took pics of my home

My lovely self employed cleaner went back to her own country. New cleaner started this week. House is tidy but dirty floor and surfaces, needs a good vacuum/mop/wiping up. We hire 4 hours a week for a deep clean of the downstairs(kitchen dining living room)/hallway and stairs. Standard 3 bed house in London with kitchen extension, takes me 2 hours to do but pay for 4 so the job gets done properly.

New cleaner came and in 4 hours couldn't clean what we asked which is just vacuum/mop and wipe down all surfaces. Had to ask her to clean individual window seals as she didn't and when she left I noticed the living room window seal wasnt cleaned. She broke my glass chopping board and didn't say anything and left chemicals in the oven which I told her not to clean. Last cleaner was able to wipe the skirting boards and didn't leave a spec of dirt in corners, this cleaner left many areas dirty.

I said nothing and thought I won't hire again. The company messaged me why I don't want to hire again and I said I wasn't happy with the clean nothing else.

I then get very abusive messages and pictures of my floor being dirty saying my house is disgusting. Didn't get to respond before I was blocked by the company.

AIBU? I feel completely violated and want to complain some how. She took photos of my home without permission.

Don't even know what to do now and feel uncomfortable using another cleaner. Husband says I'm over reacting :( am I?

FYI I've added a photo of my home before the cleaner came. Floors are clearly dirty but the kitchen is tidy/needs wipe down.

You’re heavily pregnant so that’s even more reason why other family members should be stepping up. Who on earth drops something on the floor and doesn’t pick it up? They would if it was money. You and DH need to get tough, dole out chores and it’s the most basic of basic rules, you make a mess you clean it up.
Even my dog knows not to drop any of his food on the floor.

Are you a Victorian lady prone to the vapours? It's a floor that needs a bit of a clean, there's no need for such exaggeration

😆
i have a pretty clear picture of what kind of home you’re living in!

Bathroom is clean, as I said the cleaner is only hired to vacuum/mop/wipe surfaces in the kitchen/dining room/living room/hallway. Essentially our downstairs only, no rooms or bathrooms. I'm heavily pregnant and can't crack vacuuming and mopping hence hiring a cleaner.

post the other pics of this kitchen floor was the worst of it

The furious MN cleaning vigilantes are out in force today I see. People who don’t have time or capacity to keep their house as clean as they would like hire cleaners. And their house is not clean before the cleaners come. Why is this such a shock to some people?

OP I think your cleaner’s behaviour was disgraceful. If they didn’t want to clean your house or thought your expectations were unrealistic, they could have communicated this much better. And as you say, your old cleaner managed just fine. Don’t let the sneery housekeeping fanatics of MN get you down.

KatyaKabanova · 12/10/2024 19:27

Are the other adults in the house very elderly and disabled?

maddening · 12/10/2024 19:27

Frankensteinslittlefriend · 12/10/2024 18:53

She said your house was disgusting, not just the floor. So you’re clearly all leaving it filthy and waiting for the cleaner. Clean up after yourselves, there is no excuse. That is simply unacceptable. No wonder they blocked you.

If it was clean she wouldn't need a cleaner

ChicExpert · 12/10/2024 19:30

KatyaKabanova · 12/10/2024 19:15

I see why you want photos. Who is making all this terrible mess and not attempting to clean up?

Middle eastern men lol. Perks of living intergenerational :)

Standard 3 bed house in London with kitchen extension

its not standard size.its massive. Good luck doing that in 2 hours.

She had 4 hours

Cantwaittogethome243 · 12/10/2024 19:30

Ignore the stupid comments about your floors being dirty. That’s exactly why you hire a cleaner. What’s the point if you’re going to have to do it yourself everyday?!

Ah. The mess is therefore invisible!

I think an PP had it right when they guessed that OP might mean window sills not window seals.

Oh I clean my window sills 😁. I thought maybe the window seal meant open the upvc window and clean the hidden bit which is inside the frame when closed??? No idea, but i don’t clean the hidden bit of the window frame insides.

Ineedaholidayyyy · 12/10/2024 19:32

Remember OP, 90% of people on mumsnet are perfect and all live in immaculate houses, so you will be judged on a post like this.

I'm not going to judge you from one photo, cleaning company sounds unprofessional. Just move on and look for another cleaner, someone who actually cleans rather than taking photos of your house, which you are paying them to clean.

This is bonkers. OP has said it was messy and surely that's why people have cleaners? If I had to do a clean before the cleaner then how has that saved me anytime? It's what they are paid for.

Tell them they are not living in the Middle East and to stop treating you like their skivvy.

DancingLions · 12/10/2024 19:33

This thread is hilarious. It's a few crumbs and a fallen packet or such like fgs. If the floor was clean what would be the point of the cleaner?

Some of you must have money to burn if you pay a cleaner to come and clean a spotless house!

This is precisely why I don't have one. The expectation seems to be that your house is clean and tidy when they arrive and I don't see the point in paying money for nothing!

In our culture men don't clean 😬 DH is not middle eastern but there is no way to tell my grown ass siblings/dad to clean, just won't happen. I do have to admit this floor was much messier than usual

Wtf? That’s what you pay a cleaner for you know. To clean!

I don't get this either. Isn't this why people get cleaners? because they don't have time to clean, she even specified 'deep clean'. Why didn't the cleaner vacuum the floor that's what they hired her for.

This reminds me of when we hired new gardeners (husband/wife team), main job was to mow the lawn. I pop into the garden one afternoon, when they're there and the wife gasps, 'Oh you bothered to come out & do some gardening today, tinkly laugh, sidelong glance at her husband. Needless to say that contract ended very quickly.

LurkingFromTheShadows · 12/10/2024 19:34

Yeah sorry, op. I'm not a great cleaner and I have two small children, one who is currently going through a phase of lobbing food around and even my floors aren't that manky. I'd be worried about bugs coming in with floors like that 😬

I'm with you! I can't believe everyone has latched onto the fact that the floors did in fact need a clean by the time the cleaner was due to visit. So long as everything is tidy and in place, surely that's the correct starting point ? Do people properly clean before the cleaner is about to come?

Fatcaterpillar · 12/10/2024 19:35

Why has nobody picked up that the op probably means windowsills?

Usually cleaned regularly.

borntoblossom · 12/10/2024 19:36

Bloody hell, I'm glad I don't know folk like the insane people on this thread shaming OP for having a dirty floor before a cleaner comes to clean it 😂

Silviasilvertoes · 12/10/2024 19:36

OP, I worked as a cleaner to fund my way through uni. Some of the houses were disgusting. One of the worst was a huge house owned by two very senior surgeons. I’d have sworn quietly about the state of your floor, but believe me, I’ve seen worse. Now have a cleaner myself and I probably wouldn’t leave it in tha state, but DH definitely would. Men, huh?

Frankensteinslittlefriend · 12/10/2024 19:36

really disturbed at some peoples standards. How anyone can look at that and think it’s not that bad is beyond me, their homes must be just as bad or worse.

Ans to think that this was likely the most civilised of all the pics of this is the only one the OP felt ok sharing

That’s not men, my husband and none of the men I know would live like that.
